Study Summary

This trial is looking at how different types of bacteria in the gut affect metabolism and whether dietary interventions can improve blood sugar control to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for men and women aged 18-65 with a BMI between >17 and ≤30 kg/m2, who do not have obesity. It's not suitable for those on certain hormone therapies, with recent sedative use, autoimmune or severe heart conditions, GI diseases, major psychiatric disorders, substance abuse history in the last 6 months, cancer within 5 years, HIV positive status or organ transplants.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study investigates how gut bacteria affect digestion of carbohydrates and availability of tryptophan—a precursor to serotonin—in people. It involves testing blood levels after eating carbs and seeing if potato starch supplements can alter gut bacteria to improve these processes.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial focuses on dietary interventions with common food starches rather than drugs, side effects are expected to be minimal. However, gastrointestinal discomfort or changes in bowel habits could potentially occur.
