Study Summary

This trialwill test if coconut oil can increase cholecystokinin & receptor expression in lean asthmatics & whether this correlates with changes in airway stiffness & symptom control.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for lean adults aged 18+ with mild asthma who haven't smoked much (or at all) and don't use inhaled steroids. They should be able to do certain lung function tests and show improvement after using a bronchodilator. Pregnant individuals, recent fatty acid supplement users, or those with major health issues can't participate.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing if adding coconut oil to the diet affects airway muscle stiffness and asthma symptoms by changing certain proteins in the muscles. Participants will eat coconut oil daily for 3 weeks, undergo lung tests, biopsies before and after intake, and answer symptom questionnaires.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects are not detailed but may include discomfort from consuming extra fat like stomach upset or changes in bowel habits. The bronchoscopy procedure could cause throat irritation, coughing, or infection risks.
