- You are currently taking certain medications that can interact with the study drug.You have dementia that makes it hard for you to do everyday tasks on your own.You are 40 years old or older.You had a stroke or mini-stroke likely caused by a specific kind of irregular heartbeat.You had a stroke or mini-stroke caused by a heart problem like a blood clot, infection in the heart, or a heart valve issue, according to your doctor's opinion.You have had a minor stroke or a high-risk mini-stroke.You have a current cancer, hepatitis B or C, or HIV infection before the stroke or mini-stroke.You have difficulty swallowing and can't take the study medication by mouth.You have a history of muscle pain or weakness with high levels of a protein called creatine kinase while taking statin medication.You had a stroke or mini-stroke likely caused by certain artery blockages or a specific type of embolism, and it's unlikely that another type of stroke caused it.Your liver function tests show that your liver is not working properly.You have nerve problems that cause symptoms, or a progressive muscle or nerve disease.You have Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or chronic diarrhea.You have a history of not taking your medications as prescribed.You are allergic to colchicine.You had a stroke or mini-stroke caused by certain conditions or within 48 hours after certain surgeries, as determined by your doctor.You have low levels of red blood cells, platelets, or white blood cells in your blood.Your kidney function is good, with a GFR of 50 ml/min or more.
- Group 1: Colchicine treatment
- Group 2: Usual Standard of care alone
- No Placebo-Only Group - All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.
