Study Summary

This trial is testing a new way to care for patients with cancer that has spread through their body. The care includes monitoring the patient's health from a distance and providing support for them at home.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 with advanced blood cancers who are not seeking curative treatment but rather supportive care, as determined by their oncologist. They must be able to communicate in English (with help if needed) and live within 50 miles of MGH. Patients still eligible for clinic-based transfusions can join, except those with uncontrolled psychiatric issues or impaired cognition.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a home-based end-of-life care program called 'Optimize End of Life Care at Home,' which includes remote patient monitoring and support services for individuals with severe hematologic malignancies.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention focuses on supportive care rather than medication, side effects may include emotional distress or discomfort related to the end-of-life process rather than typical drug-related reactions.

What is the aim of this research initiative?

"The primary metric monitored during this 6-month trial is the enrollment rate. Among other measures, secondary outcomes include Caregiver Quality of Life (CareGiver Oncology QOL), Patient Symptom Burden (using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale-revise) and Caregiver Satisfaction with patient's end of life (EOL) care using the FAMCARE; all these will be assessed by means of respective scales ranging from 0 to 100 points or 24 respectively, where higher scores denote more favourable results."
