Study Summary
This trial seeks to improve mental health of Asian Californians by providing a 6-week program of texts and/or Lay Health Worker outreach. Participants must speak/read English, Chinese, Korean, Hmong, or Vietnamese.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for Asian Americans in California who are over 18, can read/speak English, Chinese, Korean, Hmong or Vietnamese and have a mobile phone to receive texts. It's not for those unwilling to get text messages from the project.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a 6-week emotional wellness program called INFORMED-Living Well during pandemic recovery. Participants will either get text messages only or texts plus support from Lay Health Workers.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves informational text messaging and possibly talking with health workers, there aren't typical medical side effects; however, participants may experience discomfort discussing mental health.

Study Objectives

Change in decisional conflict scale (SURE) scores
Secondary outcome measures
Change in proportion of participants who have Intention to seek help for mental health
Change in self-reported emotional wellness outcome
Change in the percentage of participants' awareness of resources to get help or to learn more about improving emotional wellness

Group I: INFORMED-Living WellExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
INFORMED-Living Well consists of two components: 1) LHW outreach support providing responsive education and support; and 2) a 6-week automated SMS text messaging. The LHW educational outreach component includes 2 small group educational sessions with 2-8 participants. Participants will also receive a weekly SMS Text or instant message on managing emotional wellness within and beyond the context of the COVID-19 pandemic over 6 weeks. In addition, participants will receive as-needed messages on updates of COVID-19 or other situations that may introduce new worries and tragic culturally-based traumatic events.
Group II: Text Messaging OnlyActive Control1 Intervention
Participants will have a 6-week SMS text messaging program identical to that received by the INFORMED-Living Well participants.

This trial has 1 awards, including:- No Placebo-Only Group - All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.
