Study Summary

This trial will develop and implement a web-based and electronic health record-integrated Opioid Use Disorder Clinical Decision Support system to offer expert guidance to primary care providers on the diagnosis and management of Opioid Use Disorder.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for patients aged 18-75 at certain clinics, diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), currently on medication-assisted treatment, or considered high risk for OUD. It excludes those with advanced cancer, in hospice care, or who've had intensive chemotherapy within the last year.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests an electronic health record-integrated tool called 'Opioid Wizard' designed to help primary care providers manage OUD. Clinics are randomly chosen to use this tool or continue usual care while the system collects data and provides tailored treatment recommendations.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves a decision support system rather than a drug, traditional side effects aren't expected. However, there may be indirect impacts on patient care based on the guidance provided.

Study Objectives

Outcome measures can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.
Primary outcome measures
Calculate differences in average days covered by MOUD prescription
Calculate differences in rate of MOUD orders or referrals
Calculate differences in rate of naloxone rescue kit ordering
+1 more
Secondary outcome measures
Comparing all-cause mortality rates between intervention and control clinic patients
Comparing rates of fatal and non-fatal overdoses between intervention and control clinic patients
Difference between number of Emergency Department visits for intervention and control patients
+2 more

Frequently Asked Questions

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

What is the scope of participants for this trial?

"Yes, the details posted on clinicaltrials.gov demonstrate that this trial is still open for recruitment. Launched in November of 2019 and last updated on March 18th 2022, 3600000 participants are needed from 3 distinct research sites."

Answered by AI

Who is eligible to be part of this research initiative?

"This ongoing clinical trial seeks to recruit 3.6 million people aged 18-75 years, who suffer from opioid use disorder (OUD). Patients must be prescribed medication for OUD or identified as being at high risk of it and also currently attending a randomized clinic in order to qualify."

Are researchers actively recruiting for this study?

"Per clinicaltrials.gov, this medical trial is still enrolling patients. It was first advertised on November 12th 2019 and the latest update to the listing took place in March 18 2022."

Answered by AI

What is the stated purpose of this experimental research?

"The primary aim of this study, evaluated at the end of 53 months, is to differentiate average days covered by MOUD prescriptions between intervention and control clinic patients. Secondary objectives involve comparing all-cause mortality rates, fatal and non-fatal overdoses among OUD or high-risk for OUD patients cared for in interventional clinics versus usual care clinics during the observation period as well measuring differences in hospitalizations post index date among those with OUD or identified as high risk for OUD cared for in interventional clinics relative to UC clinics."

Answered by AI

Is the age threshold for participation in this medical experiment limited to individuals who are 70 or younger?

"Patients who wish to participate in this medical experiment must be between 18 and 75 years of age. For those younger than 18, there are 89 clinical trials available; for seniors over the age of 65, 400 separate studies exist."
