Study Summary
This trial will see if an app-based reminder and monitoring system can help 45 million US adults with hypertension take their medication as prescribed, reducing morbidity and mortality.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults with high blood pressure who have been on antihypertensive meds for at least a year, can use a smartphone app without help, and score low on a medication adherence scale. It's not for those needing assistance with meds, having severe cognitive or visual impairments, using pillboxes, or lacking compatible smartphones.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if a mobile phone app reminding patients to take their blood pressure medications improves adherence over usual care (receiving an educational pamphlet). Participants are randomly assigned to either the reminder app group or control group for 30 days while usage is tracked via special pill bottle caps.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves the use of an app rather than medication, there are no direct medical side effects. However, participants may experience frustration or stress if they encounter technical difficulties with the app.
