TGNB-CARE Trial Summary

This trial studies the acceptability, feasibility and outcomes of a 12-session, mentalizing-focused intervention for caregivers of transgender and nonbinary youth. The aim is to reduce parenting stress and increase acceptance, reflective functioning and support.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking adult caregivers of transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) youth who are experiencing stress related to their child's gender identity. Participants must be involved with Montefiore Medical Center, seeking parenting support via telehealth, and not have severe mental illness or prior similar group interventions.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The TGNB-CARE study tests a tele-health parenting program designed for caregivers of TGNB youth. It aims to see if the program is workable and helpful by measuring changes in parental stress, acceptance, reflection on parenting practices, positive feelings, and social support after 12 sessions.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves psychological support rather than medication, traditional side effects are not expected. However, participants may experience emotional discomfort discussing sensitive topics during the therapy sessions.
