RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known if treatment with cisplatin plus epinephrine is effective for head and neck cancer.

PURPOSE: Randomized double-blinded phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of cisplatin plus epinephrine in injectable gel form in treating patients who have recurrent or refractory head and neck cancer.

This study is evaluating whether a combination of drugs is more effective than a single drug in treating head and neck cancer.

I do not have an untreated infection at the site where I will receive treatment.

I can care for myself but may not be able to do active work.

My kidney function, measured by creatinine, is within normal limits.

I have no major history of neck artery disease from plaque buildup, radiation, or surgery.

I have no lingering side effects from previous cancer treatments.

My head or neck cancer has come back or didn't respond after treatment.

I don't have scar tissue from previous radiation without cancer growth.

My cancer can be directly injected without causing bleeding or blockage.

My doctor has identified a main treatment goal for my most problematic tumor.

My largest tumor is chosen for treatment if I have several troublesome ones.

I have chosen a tumor that bothers me the most and a goal to improve my symptoms.

My cancer has not spread to or is threatening major blood vessels.

I don't have a heart rhythm problem that could make treatment risky.

My tumor is small enough for treatment but not for measuring treatment success.

It has been over 28 days since my last cancer treatment or experimental drug use.

My cancer affects the skin, lymph nodes, under the skin, or muscles.

My largest tumor is between 0.5 and 20 cc in size.

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy for Skin Cancer

This study is evaluating whether boron neutron capture therapy is effective in treating patients with stage III melanoma.

I have visible skin or just under the skin tumor nodules that can be treated with radiation.

I have not had radiation therapy on the area being considered for treatment.

My tumor is between 1.0 and 6.0 cm deep from the skin surface.

I do not have a history of phenylketonuria.

My melanoma is confirmed by biopsy and is at stage III.

I am mostly able to care for myself and carry out daily activities.

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person's immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy.

PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy plus filgrastim in treating patients who have stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Chemotherapy + Filgrastim for Advanced Lung Cancer

This study is evaluating whether a combination of chemotherapy and filgrastim can improve the survival of people with non-small cell lung cancer.

It's been over 2 weeks since my major surgery and 6 months since my heart procedure.

My lung cancer is confirmed to be at an advanced stage (IIIB or IV).

I do not have any symptoms from brain metastases.

My treatment plan does not specify endocrine therapy.

I haven't taken experimental drugs or acetaminophen for fever in the last 30 days.

I am mostly independent and can care for myself.

I am not taking any other blood cell growth boosters.

My creatinine level is 2.0 mg/dL or lower.

It's been over 2 weeks since my last radiotherapy session and I've recovered.

My heart condition is stable, and it's been over 6 months since my last heart attack.

I haven't had radiation, chemotherapy, or immune-affecting drugs in the last 4 weeks.

I have not had an HIV vaccine in the last 3 months nor plan to during the study.

I am committed to completing the study and taking the drugs as required.

If I am under 18, my parent or guardian has agreed to the treatment.

I have a stomach or intestine problem that affects how I absorb medicine.

I am not allergic to the study drugs or their ingredients.

I have been on anti-HIV medication for at least 2 weeks.

I have had hepatitis in the last 6 months.

I have taken medication for HIV that is not a nucleoside.

I am not taking astemizole, cisapride, midazolam, triazolam, or ergot derivatives.

This study is evaluating whether a drug can stop tumor cells from dividing.

I am not receiving any other cancer-killing treatments.

I am not receiving any radiotherapy except for pain relief in a specific area.

My brain cancer is stable and I've been on a steady dose of steroids for the last month.

I can carry out all my usual activities without help.

I do not have any major neurological or psychiatric disorders, except those caused by my cancer.

I have no other cancers except for treated skin cancer, cervical carcinoma in situ, or a cancer cured over 5 years ago.

I do not have any infections that aren't under control.

My condition has not been treated before.

I do not have any serious illnesses besides my current condition.

I am not currently receiving any immunotherapy for cancer.

My cancer is a type of pancreatic cancer confirmed by lab tests.

My cancer cannot be removed by surgery and has spread.

I have not received hormone therapy before.

My kidney function is normal or only slightly reduced.

I am not currently on any hormone treatments for cancer.

I do not have chest pain due to heart issues.

I have not had a heart attack in the last year.

I do not have a history of chronic diarrhea conditions like Crohn's or ulcerative colitis.

My nutritional health is good enough to handle severe diarrhea.

I cannot take or absorb medications orally.

I haven't had radiation or chemotherapy in the last 28 days and don't expect to need them during the study.

I have been on APV or LPV medication for over a week.

I have taken more than 2 protease inhibitors.

I cannot take 2 specific HIV medications as required by the study.

I have a severe illness defined by the CDC as Category C.

I haven't taken excluded drugs in the last 28 days and don't plan to during the study.

I have been on protease inhibitors for 12 weeks but they failed to control my virus.

I do not have serious health issues like diabetes, heart problems, or hepatitis.

I have not had pancreatitis or hepatitis in the last 6 months.

I have not received an HIV vaccine in the last 3 months.

I have a history of serious kidney or bone disease.

I have taken tenofovir or adefovir for my condition.

I haven't taken immune-affecting drugs or anti-HIV drugs in the last 28 days.

I am currently on antiretroviral therapy.

I am at least 13 years old (or 18 if required) and can provide parental consent if under 18.

This study is evaluating whether a biological therapy can be used to treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

I have a specific type of low or intermediate-grade B-cell lymphoma and may have had prior treatment.

My lymphoma was classified as low, intermediate, or high grade.

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Photodynamic therapy uses light and drugs that make cancer cells more sensitive to light to kill cancer cells. Photosensitizing drugs, such as methoxsalen, are absorbed by cancer cells and, when exposed to light, become active and kill the cancer cells. Combining chemotherapy with photodynamic therapy may be an effective treatment for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining different doses of bexarotene with photodynamic therapy in treating patients who have stage IB or stage IIA cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

It has been over 30 days since I last used topical anticancer treatments.

I haven't taken high-dose vitamin A or similar drugs in the last 30 days.

I have never had uncontrolled high cholesterol.

I have never had pancreatitis or high risk for it.

I have not received interferon as a cancer treatment.

It has been over 30 days since my last skin cancer treatment with light therapy.

I am not receiving radiotherapy to my study lesions, unless my doctor decides it's necessary.

I am not using any other cancer treatments.

I am not taking any retinoid drugs, high-dose vitamin A, or beta-carotene.

My cancer has never been more advanced than stage IIA.

I have never had melanoma or invasive squamous cell carcinoma.

My skin cancer was confirmed as T-cell lymphoma in the last year.

I do not have a history of conditions like lupus, porphyria, albinism, or missing eye lenses.

I have not had any cancer treatment that affects my whole body.

I have not had chemotherapy with drugs made from plants.

I don't have any serious illnesses or infections that would stop me from joining the study.

My cancer is at an early stage (Stage IB or IIA).

My fasting triglycerides are normal, and I may be taking medication for it except gemfibrozil.

I am not taking statin and fibrate medications together.

I have received less than 600 mg/m^2 of cisplatin in total.

My cancer is not Burkitt's, lymphoblastic, or mantle cell lymphoma.

I have had 1 to 3 chemotherapy treatments, possibly including doxorubicin but not exceeding a certain dose.

My heart is healthy with no recent heart attacks, severe irregular heartbeats, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

My lymphoma is aggressive and has come back or didn't respond to treatment.

I am fully active or able to carry out light work.

My liver function tests are within acceptable limits and I don't have hepatitis B or C.

My creatinine level is 1.5 mg/dL or lower.

My hemoglobin or albumin levels are low and considered clinically significant.

I am not pregnant, breastfeeding, and if capable of becoming pregnant, I am using birth control.

My wound exposes bone, tendon, or fascia.

I am currently being treated for a collagen vascular disease like rheumatoid arthritis.

I have had signs of cellulitis or bone infection in the last month.

My wound was infected but is now clear of ß-haemolytic streptococcus.

I require dialysis for chronic kidney failure.

I haven't taken steroids or immunosuppressants in the last 30/90 days.

I have been diagnosed with venous insufficiency based on specific tests.

I have a leg ulcer for over 3 months that hasn't healed with standard treatments.

My wound is between 2 cm2 and 20 cm2 in size.
