What is Naproxen

NaproxenThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryNaproxen is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory dug (NSAID) and was initially approved for prescription use in 1976 and then for over-the-counter (OTC) use in 1994.[A178975] It can effectively manage acute pain as well as pain related to rheumatic diseases, and has a well studied adverse effect profile.[A179098] Given its overall tolerability and effectiveness, naproxen can be considered a first line treatment for a variety of clinical situations requiring analgesia.[A179098] Naproxen is available in both immediate and delayed release formulations, in combination with sumatriptan to treat migraines, and in combination with esomeprazole to lower the risk of developing gastric ulcers.[L6582][L6583][L7309][L7312]

Naproxen is my go-to for toothaches because it provides such quick relief. I also recently used it for a spider bite and, again, it did wonders!

Naproxen for Pain
Naproxen provides decent pain relief for my fibromyalgia, though it doesn't completely remove the discomfort. It's also non-sedating, which is great. However, I have experienced intestinal bleeding as a result of taking this medication; because of this, I've had to take breaks from using it periodically.

Naproxen for Painful Periods
This is the only over-the-counter medication that I've found to be effective in reducing pain for my endometriosis, adenomyosis and cystic ovaries. However, you must make sure to eat before taking this pill or else it will give you stomach pains. Also, drink a full glass of water so that it dissolves more quickly.

Naproxen for Head Pain
I was prescribed naproxen for a headache and fever. The medication did help to lower my fever, but now I have constant tinnitus that gives me headaches on top of the original pain. It also gives me heartburn and stomachaches that make it difficult to eat.

I took this for a serious pain in my right arm, but it just made me sleepy. The pain actually got worse after taking it, to the point where I couldn't sleep. I stopped taking it because it was making things worse, not better.

NTR-1011 for Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

18 - 75
All Sexes
Glendale, CA
This phase 1a and 1b study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, immunogenicity, and preliminary efficacy of NTR-1011 in healthy adults and in adult patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. The main goals of this study are to determine the safety profile of NTR-1011 across subcutaneous and intravenous dose levels, understand how the drug behaves in the body, characterize its biological activity through relevant pharmacodynamic markers, assess the potential for immune responses to treatment, and explore early signals of clinical benefit in autoimmune disease settings. This is a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study that begins with a single ascending dose evaluation in healthy volunteers followed by a multiple dose assessment in patients. The design is intended to define the highest safe and well tolerated dose, establish a robust PK and PD baseline, and generate initial patient level evidence to support dose selection and advancement into subsequent clinical development.

Lidocaine Infusions for Postoperative Pain

18+
All Sexes
Nashville, TN
The goal of this single-center, pragmatic, randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial is to evaluate the impact of intravenous (IV) lidocaine within the existing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)program on outcomes in patients after major abdominal surgery. The main questions the trial aims to answer are: The primary hypothesis is that utilization of IV lidocaine as part of a perioperative multimodal pain regimen will result in a reduction in hospital Case Mix Index-Adjusted Resource Length of Stay (CARLOS). The secondary hypotheses are that lidocaine infusion will result in a reduction in total inpatient opioid consumption (oral morphine milligram equivalents, oMMEs) and pain scores, and improved surgical outcomes (including return of bowel function, ileus, nausea, rapid responses called, surgical site infections, and ICU transfers), while also having minimal incidence of side effects (including double/blurry vision, tinnitus, sedation, and adverse events requiring early cessation).

Embolization for Migraine

18 - 80
All Sexes
Baltimore, MD
This study is to test the safety and feasibility of a procedure called embolization of the middle meningeal arteries (MMA), using a product called Onyx. Embolization creates a plug in the arteries. MMA embolization with Onyx is not approved for use in patients with migraines, but is currently used in patients with subdural hematomas. The FDA is allowing the use of Onyx in this study. It is thought that by using Onyx to block the middle meningeal arteries, the amount of migraine-causing substances which are released into the brain's bloodstream will be reduced. The company that manufactures Onyx, Medtronic, is providing the supplies for this study. Participants will be in the study for about 8 months after enrolling, including 6 months of follow up after the procedure. The participants will be asked to complete a daily headache diary and continue the participant's regular migraine medications. Participants will also have several clinic visits and be asked to provide blood samples for research.

Guided Imagery Therapy for Abdominal Pain

7 - 12
All Sexes
Austin, TX
Chronic abdominal pain is common among children, and the majority of cases are attributed to functional abdominal pain disorders. One approach to treating these disorders is by using psychological therapies. This clinical trial aims to see how well pre-recorded guided imagery therapy sessions help children's abdominal pain when delivered via a mobile application (app) on a smartphone or tablet. Participants will complete a baseline abdominal pain and stooling diary to determine eligibility, as well as other surveys. Eligible participants will be given access to the guided imagery therapy mobile application. This intervention asks participants to listen to a 10- to 15-minute GIT session 5 out of 7 days per week for 8 weeks, in addition to their usual care for their abdominal pain. Then, participants will complete another abdominal pain and stooling diary, along with other psychometric surveys, at the end of this intervention period. Participants will also collect another diary and surveys 3 months post-treatment.

Health Coaching for Rheumatoid Arthritis

18+
All Sexes
New York, NY
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if peer coaching works to reduce levels of anxiety and/or depression in adults diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The main questions it aims to answer are: Do people with RA who complete the intervention with a peer coach have lower levels of anxiety and/or depression at 6 months from baseline? Do people with RA who complete the intervention with a peer coach have lower levels of anxiety and/or depression at 6 months compared to those in the control arm? Researchers will compare the peer coaching intervention to an active-control arm (where people without RA coach participants on general health and nutrition topics) to see if peer coaching works to reduce anxiety and/or depression. Participants will meet with a coach every week for 9 weeks and complete several surveys before, during and after the intervention

Electromagnetic Resonance Therapy for Autoimmune Diseases

Any Age
All Sexes
New York, NY
The ImmuneNet study is a Phase I/II clinical trial sponsored by Truway Health, Inc. It will test whether gentle, low-frequency electromagnetic resonance (LF-EMR) can influence how immune cells communicate and synchronize with each other. The goal is to see if this "quantum-synaptic" signaling effect can help stabilize immune activity and reduce the number of autoimmune flare-ups in people living with conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis. Participants will receive either an active or a sham (placebo) LF-EMR session three times per week for twelve weeks. Each session is completely non-invasive. Blood samples will be collected to study cytokines (immune-system messenger molecules), gene-expression patterns, and electrical field coherence among immune cells. A machine-learning system will analyze these data to predict inflammation patterns and guide individualized treatment settings. All participant data will be securely recorded and time-stamped to ensure transparency and privacy. The expected outcome of the study is a measurable reduction in autoimmune flare frequency and symptom severity, along with improved understanding of how electromagnetic signaling might safely regulate immune function.

Pain Mechanisms for Juvenile Arthritis

9 - 17
All Sexes
St Louis, MO
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatologic disease in children. The main symptoms of JIA, which are often the primary focus of treatment, include joint swelling, stiffness, and tenderness. Additional symptoms can include malaise, fatigue, and pain. However, the exact mechanisms contributing to pain are not yet fully understood. Participants will complete a 2.5-hours study session. In the study session, psychophysical assessments of thermal and pressure stimuli will be performed. In addition, demographic, social, pubertal maturation, and behavioral and psychological factors will be collected via questionnaires. A saliva sample and/or blood draw may occur for the analysis of various immune factors and sex hormones. If a joint aspiration is done as part of their standard of care, we will request a sample of the synovial fluid for analyses of immune, hormonal and/or genetic factors. Participants will have the option to participate in additional optional follow-up study visits (every 3 months, up to 1 year) and to complete monthly surveys asking about their juvenile arthritis.

BPL-1357 for Flu

18 - 55
All Sexes
Bethesda, MD
Background: Influenza (flu) infections are a serious global health threat. Each year, between 3 and 5 million people get the flu, and up to 500,000 die from it. Current vaccines protect against seasonal flus, but broader vaccines are needed to protect against potential flu pandemics. Objective: To test an experimental flu vaccine. Eligibility: Healthy people aged 18 to 55 years. Design: The study will last 5 to 8 months and has 2 phases, A and B. The study vaccine will be given either as a shot in the arm or as a nasal spray. Participants will receive 1 of 3 combinations: (1) study vaccine in the nose and placebo in the arm; (2) placebo in the nose and study vaccine in the arm; or (3) placebo in the nose and placebo in the arm. A placebo is just like the real vaccine but contains no active ingredients. Phase A: Participants will have 5 clinic visits over 56 days. They will receive a shot and a nasal spray at 2 of the visits, 28 days apart. At each visit, they will have a physical exam, with tests of their blood, urine, and nasal secretions. They will check their temperature at home and record any symptoms for 7 days after each vaccine. Phase B: Participants will stay in the hospital for at least 9 days. They will be infected with a flu virus. They will provide blood, urine, and nasal fluid samples. They will have tests of their heart function. They will remain in the hospital until they test negative for the flu 2 days in a row. They will have 2 follow-up visits, 4 and 8 weeks after leaving the hospital.
