Effectiveness
How Lufyllin Affects PatientsDyphylline is a drug used to help people with asthma and bronchitis breathe better. It belongs to a class of drugs called xanthines, and works by opening up the airways in the lungs. It can also help to widen the blood vessels in the body, as well as relax other muscles.
How Lufyllin works in the bodyDyphylline relaxes the airways in your lungs by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase. This increases cyclic AMP, which relaxes the muscles that control your breathing. Dyphylline also blocks adenosine receptors, which further helps to keep your airways open.
