Effectiveness

How Imdur Affects PatientsIsosorbide mononitrate is a drug used to prevent and treat chest pain (angina). It works by releasing a compound called nitric oxide when it is metabolized. Nitric oxide causes veins and arteries to relax, which lowers the pressure in the veins returning to the heart, decreases the pressure in the aorta, and relaxes the blood vessels in the heart. This increases blood flow to the heart and reduces how much oxygen it needs. Isosorbide mononitrate takes effect within an hour and its effects can last up to 12 hours. It can also affect other types of smooth muscles like those
How Imdur works in the bodyIsosorbide mononitrate helps the body produce nitric oxide, which relaxes the walls of blood vessels. This is done by increasing the levels of a molecule called cyclic GMP, which then triggers a chain reaction inside the cell that leads to reduced calcium levels. Lower calcium levels cause the muscles around the blood vessels to relax, widening the vessels and allowing more blood to flow.

Imdur for Chronic Stable Angina
It took a little bit of getting used to, but this medication has been great at controlling my chest tightness. The only downside is that it made me feel foggy and gave me headaches for the first few days, but that has since gone away.

Imdur for Angina Pectoris Prevention
I initially experienced headaches when starting this medication, but they eventually subsided. I've been taking it for approximately five months now with few problems. The only issues I have are congestion in my ears and a weepy left eye; perhaps if I took the medication at bedtime instead of in the morning, that would alleviate those symptoms.

I've been taking Imdur for a few years now and it's done wonders for my blood pressure. Recently, my doctor said I could cut back to half a tablet, and so far that seems to be working just fine.

Imdur for Angina Pectoris Prevention
I gave this medication a try but unfortunately it gave me an awful headache that quickly developed into a migraine. I also felt nauseous. This happened both days I tried taking the pill, so I stopped and got rid of the rest.

Taking this medication gave me an incredibly painful headache, made me feel nauseous and dizzy. I tried it again the next day and felt even worse; including upset stomach. It's been a week and I'm still experiencing symptoms.
