How Dermacort Affects Patients
Hydrocortisone works by attaching to a specific type of receptor in the body and blocking certain signals that cause inflammation. It is considered to be a safe drug with a long-lasting effect, but should be stopped if irritation or sensitivity develops.
How Dermacort works in the body
Corticosteroids reduce swelling and inflammation. They work by binding to a type of protein in the body called glucocorticoid receptor. This changes how certain genes work, which helps reduce inflammation. Corticosteroids can also stop neutrophils from dying, and reduce the production of inflammatory molecules. Low doses of corticosteroids reduce inflammation, while higher doses decrease the body's immune response. When taken for a long time, corticosteroids can also raise sodium levels and lower potassium levels.
When to interrupt dosage
The prescribed dose of Dermacort is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, such as Ophthalmia, Sympathetic, Drug Allergy and Sarcoidosis. The amount of dosage fluctuates according to the approach of delivery (e.g. Topical or Auricular (otic)) noted in the table beneath.

Taking too much glucocorticoid medication can cause a variety of long-term effects, including cataracts, glaucoma, high blood pressure, fluid retention, changes in cholesterol levels, peptic ulcers, pancreatitis, muscle weakness, and changes in mood. It can also increase the risk of infections and cause skin thinning, unwanted hair growth, allergies, acne, and weight gain. In case of an overdose, the dose of the medication should be adjusted or stopped and additional treatments may be necessary.
