How Calcium Carbonate Affects PatientsGastric-peptic disease is caused by an imbalance between substances that are either helpful or damaging to the stomach. Antacids help to rebalance the stomach by decreasing the amount of acid, blocking pepsin activity, and increasing helpful substances like bicarbonate and prostaglandin. Calcium carbonate, a common antacid, can neutralize 58 mEq of acid per 15 ml. When taken as a supplement, calcium carbonate also helps to increase the body's calcium stores.
How Calcium Carbonate works in the bodyCalcium carbonate is a salt that helps reduce stomach acid. It can also limit the activity of pepsin, an enzyme involved in digestion. Calcium carbonate also makes bicarbonate and prostaglandins, which help protect cells. When calcium carbonate is mixed with stomach acid, it creates calcium chloride, carbon dioxide, and water. Most of the calcium chloride then turns into an insoluble form, such as calcium carbonate or calcium phosphate.

Calcium Carbonate for Indigestion
I had been using calcium carbonate for a while before I realized that it was causing food to get stuck in my lower esophagus. tapping on my stomach and taking small sips of water would eventually get the food down, but if I ingested too much water, it would cause a blockage all the way up to my throat and I would have to cough or vomit it out. I stopped taking calcium carbonate because it was causing more problems than it was solving.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the impact of a natural dietary supplement, Inno Cleanse™, to reduce bloating in a population of otherwise healthy men and women, who claim to feel frequently bloated. Inno CleanseTM dietary supplement is manufactured in the United States under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and is marketed by InnoSupps as a digestive health aid. It is sold in the United States on the company's website, Amazon, and in many large retail outlets. It remains a very popular product, with close to 1.4 million units sold since 2020, with a reported 66,000 units sold in the past three months. Despite the prevalence of dietary supplements identifying as digestive aids, detoxification, and cleanses, very little research has been done to determine their effectiveness. The product appears to be well-designed, with multiple ingredients included which have scientific evidence of effectiveness. That said, and despite the overall positive reviews, there is no known clinical research to support the product's effectiveness. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the Inno Cleanse product to reduce bloating and result in other positive outcomes (weight loss). This study will be run as a double-blind placebo-controlled trial, in which subjects will use the product or placebo for two weeks. It is hypothesized that treatment with the dietary supplement Inno Cleanse will result in reduced bloating, as evidenced by self-reported reductions in bloating and hunger, as well as moderate weight loss and a reduction in body circumference measures due to the reduced bloating. In addition, multiple anecdotal reports of improved skin health have been noted in those using the product. Additionally, routine blood and urine sample analysis will be performed as a secondary outcome, as a safety measure.

Velocity pAVF System for Kidney Failure

This study will evaluate the Velocity Percutaneous Arteriovenous Fistula (pAVF) System, a new minimally invasive method for creating dialysis access. People with kidney failure often require dialysis, which depends on having a reliable arteriovenous fistula (AVF). Traditionally, AVFs are created with surgery, but surgery can involve incisions, longer recovery, and sometimes additional procedures before the AVF can be used. The Velocity System is designed to create an AVF through a small puncture in the skin using a catheter-based approach, without open surgery. This pivotal study will assess how safe the procedure is and how well it works for patients who need dialysis. The study will take place at multiple centers in the United States and will enroll adults with kidney failure who are candidates for fistula creation. Participants will undergo the Velocity procedure and then be followed closely with exams, ultrasounds, and dialysis assessments for up to five years. Taking part is voluntary. Patients may benefit from a less invasive approach to dialysis access, but the main goal is to collect information that could improve future care for people with kidney failure.

Empagliflozin for Chronic Kidney Disease

This study is open to children aged 2 to 17 with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The purpose of this study is to find out if a medicine called empagliflozin helps children and adolescents with CKD. Other goals of the study are to find out how empagliflozin is tolerated and handled by the body in children and adolescents with CKD. Participants are put into 2 groups randomly, which means by chance. One group takes empagliflozin and the other group takes placebo. Placebo looks like empagliflozin but does not contain any medicine. Participants are twice as likely to be in the empagliflozin group. Participants take empagliflozin or placebo as tablets once a day for 6 months. After 6 months, participants in both groups take empagliflozin as tablets once a day for 1 year. Participants are in the study for a little over a year and a half. During this time, they visit the study site about 15 times and get at least 5 phone or video calls from the site staff. At the visits, the doctors take blood and urine samples from the participants. The doctors also regularly check participants' health and take note of any unwanted effects.
