What is Azopt

BrinzolamideThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryBrinzolamide is a medication used to reduce pressure in the eyes of patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. It works by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which helps to form bicarbonate ions that are responsible for transporting sodium and fluid in the eye. By reducing the formation of bicarbonate ions, Brinzolamide helps to lower intraocular pressure and relieve symptoms of glaucoma.

Effectiveness

How Azopt Affects PatientsBrinzolamide is a medication used to treat glaucoma. It works by reducing the amount of fluid in the eye, which helps to lower the pressure in the eye that can lead to vision loss. This drug can reduce eye pressure by up to 19% in people with high eye pressure.
How Azopt works in the bodyBrinzolamide is used to reduce the pressure inside the eye. It does this by lowering the amount of sodium and fluid produced in the eye. When it is applied to the eye, brinzolamide is absorbed into the bloodstream and binds to red blood cells, where it reduces the activity of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II). This slows down aqueous humor secretion, preventing the pressure from building up. Brinzolamide also produces a metabolite called N-desethyl brinzolamide, which binds mainly to carbonic anhydrase I (CA-I).

Azopt for Wide-Angle Glaucoma
I haven't experienced the same negative side effects as many other reviewers. For me, my vision only becomes blurry for a few minutes after using this product and there is also a bad taste in my mouth that goes away. These are much better than Lumigan for me because they have lowered my pressure.

Azopt for Wide-Angle Glaucoma
The bottles are so small and difficult to use that my 88 year old wife cannot just get only one drop out by itself. We therefore have to buy extra drops and the insurance does not cover these extra drops.
