It works by blocking sodium channels in the affected area, so that the nerves can't send signals of pain to the brain. In addition, lidocaine can also cause vasodilation, hypotension, and irregular heart rate, which is why it is used as a class Ib anti-arrhythmic agent. It is commonly prescribed to treat premature ejaculation and is affordable, so it is included in the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

How Ztlido Affects Patients

Lidocaine is a drug that is used as a local anesthetic. When taken in the right dose, it can lead to modestly lower blood pressure, but if too much is taken it can lead to serious changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiac arrhythmias. It is considered a weak base and 25% of lidocaine molecules will move into nerve cells quickly when administered via injection, usually taking effect within 1-15 minutes. Signs of an overdose of lidocaine include tingling around the mouth, lightheadedness, increased sensitivity to sound, tremors, and seizures. Unconsciousness and long-lasting seizures are possible in severe cases. Low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, and heart problems may also occur. During pregnancy, lidocaine should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks since it can cross the placenta.
