Effectiveness
How Uroxatral Affects PatientsAlfuzosin helps reduce symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing the muscles in the bladder neck and prostate. It also helps by widening blood vessels, which can result in lower blood pressure and dizziness if combined with other medications. Therefore, caution should be taken if you are also taking nitrates or antihypertensives.
How Uroxatral works in the bodyAlfuzosin works by blocking alpha(1)-adrenoreceptors in the prostate and other parts of the lower urinary tract. This prevents the receptors from contracting, allowing the muscles to relax. This leads to an improvement in urine flow and a decrease in urinary symptoms in people with BPH.

Overdosing on alfuzosin can lead to low blood pressure, so the patient should lay down and may require medical assistance such as fluids or medication to restore pressure. Close monitoring of kidney function is also necessary, though dialysis may not be effective due to alfuzosin's high protein binding rate.

Uroxatral Reviews: What are patients saying about Uroxatral?
5Patient Review
5/5/2013 This drug has worked wonders for me. I've been taking it for BPH and ED and it's really helped with both issues. After just 10 days, my urination improved a lot--I went from having to go 3+ times per night to mostly just once. The bigger surprise was the effect on my ED. I'm noticeably larger in both the flaccid and aroused state. The only downside is that I have a slightly stuffy nose now.

6/16/2012 Rapaflo helped me to urinate normally again, and Uroxathral has made sex more enjoyable by restoring ejaculate. I'm sticking with this treatment plan.
5Patient Review
9/29/2011 I urinate less frequently, which is great. However, I sometimes experience a weird sensation where my left lower leg feels hot, and then it goes back to normal. Not sure if this treatment is causing that or not, but if you're experiencing something similar, please let me know.

9/14/2011 I've been using this medication for over a year and have found it to be effective. I only need to use the restroom every four to five hours, as opposed to every two hours. Additionally, there are no sexual side effects that I have experienced.
4.3Patient Review
7/28/2012 I unfortunately had to discontinue use after just one pill because the side effects were so strong. I almost fainted from the stomach pain it gave me. However, if you can tolerate the side effects, this medication is very effective.
4.3Patient Review
8/2/2011 I've had good results from this medication in that I no longer wake up at night to use the bathroom.
4.3Patient Review
9/18/2014 I'm a 58 year old man who's been using this treatment for over five years. It definitely improves urine flow; however, it also decreases the amount of semen you produce during orgasm, which makes the experience less satisfying. I may have to decide between better urinary health and sexual satisfaction.

10/18/2012 I had to switch from Flomax to Uroxatral after a couple months because Flomax was affecting my sexual function in a very negative way. I couldn't ejaculate or reach orgasm at all. However, within days of taking Uroxatral, those problems were gone and my sexual function was even better than before I took either drug!

6/2/2014 I began having bad dreams shortly after starting this medication, but it's hard to say if it's the cause since I'm taking so many other medications following my stroke.
3.7Patient Review
9/20/2016 I have found this treatment helpful in making my flow easier. However, I have also experienced some dizziness and small blisters around my waist, legs, and back. They come and go, but they're definitely a nuisance. Additionally, I'm 72 years old and haven't had sex in five years since starting this medication.

8/9/2012 I'm not having the retrograde ejaculation problem anymore, but now I seem to be urinating even more frequently and I have pain in my penis and inguinal canals. I'm also really tired. The color of my ejaculate has changed too.
2.3Patient Review
10/12/2014 I switched to this medication from Flomax, and unfortunately all of my BPH symptoms have come back. This Uroxatral has done nothing for me. I had been taking Flomax for over a year before making the switch, and while it did virtually destroy my sex life, at least it was somewhat effective in treating my BPH. Life is too short to deal with these side effects, so I'm going to stop taking these meds and just deal with the symptoms of BPH.

2/24/2015 While it did help reduce the number of times I had to wake up at night to urinate, it also significantly decreased my enjoyment of sex. Almost no sensation and no ejaculation whatsoever. I stopped taking this medicine, as well as others that I switched to afterwards because they all caused similar problems.
1Patient Review
12/27/2011 Uroxatral was really effective for me, reducing my trips to the bathroom significantly. However, it was too expensive so I switched to Rapaflo. Unfortunately, almost immediately after starting Rapaflo my ejaculate disappeared. I'm going back to Uroxatral in hopes that my semen stream returns.
1Patient Review
12/2/2011 Flomax didn't work out for me because it led to some pretty unfortunate side effects during sex. Uroxatral is a bit better in that regard, but unfortunately does not provide the same level of urinary control as Flomax. I'm currently considering getting my prostate removed.
