Effectiveness

How Uroxatral Affects Patients

Alfuzosin helps reduce symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing the muscles in the bladder neck and prostate. It also helps by widening blood vessels, which can result in lower blood pressure and dizziness if combined with other medications. Therefore, caution should be taken if you are also taking nitrates or antihypertensives.

How Uroxatral works in the body

Alfuzosin works by blocking alpha(1)-adrenoreceptors in the prostate and other parts of the lower urinary tract. This prevents the receptors from contracting, allowing the muscles to relax. This leads to an improvement in urine flow and a decrease in urinary symptoms in people with BPH.

When to interrupt dosage

The prescribed dosage of Uroxatral is contingent upon the diagnosed condition. The degree of dosage diverges, depending on the method of administration (e.g. Tablet, film coated, extended release or Tablet, extended release) featured in the table beneath.

Uroxatral Toxicity & Overdose Risk

The most toxic dose of alfuzosin that has been found in mice is 1950mg/kg for females and 2300mg/kg for males. Overdosing on alfuzosin can lead to low blood pressure, so the patient should lay down and may require medical assistance such as fluids or medication to restore pressure. Close monitoring of kidney function is also necessary, though dialysis may not be effective due to alfuzosin's high protein binding rate.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate

This drug has worked wonders for me. I've been taking it for BPH and ED and it's really helped with both issues. After just 10 days, my urination improved a lot--I went from having to go 3+ times per night to mostly just once. The bigger surprise was the effect on my ED. I'm noticeably larger in both the flaccid and aroused state. The only downside is that I have a slightly stuffy nose now.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

Rapaflo helped me to urinate normally again, and Uroxathral has made sex more enjoyable by restoring ejaculate. I'm sticking with this treatment plan.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

I urinate less frequently, which is great. However, I sometimes experience a weird sensation where my left lower leg feels hot, and then it goes back to normal. Not sure if this treatment is causing that or not, but if you're experiencing something similar, please let me know.

I've been using this medication for over a year and have found it to be effective. I only need to use the restroom every four to five hours, as opposed to every two hours. Additionally, there are no sexual side effects that I have experienced.

I unfortunately had to discontinue use after just one pill because the side effects were so strong. I almost fainted from the stomach pain it gave me. However, if you can tolerate the side effects, this medication is very effective.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

I'm a 58 year old man who's been using this treatment for over five years. It definitely improves urine flow; however, it also decreases the amount of semen you produce during orgasm, which makes the experience less satisfying. I may have to decide between better urinary health and sexual satisfaction.

I had to switch from Flomax to Uroxatral after a couple months because Flomax was affecting my sexual function in a very negative way. I couldn't ejaculate or reach orgasm at all. However, within days of taking Uroxatral, those problems were gone and my sexual function was even better than before I took either drug!

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate

I have found this treatment helpful in making my flow easier. However, I have also experienced some dizziness and small blisters around my waist, legs, and back. They come and go, but they're definitely a nuisance. Additionally, I'm 72 years old and haven't had sex in five years since starting this medication.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

I switched to this medication from Flomax, and unfortunately all of my BPH symptoms have come back. This Uroxatral has done nothing for me. I had been taking Flomax for over a year before making the switch, and while it did virtually destroy my sex life, at least it was somewhat effective in treating my BPH. Life is too short to deal with these side effects, so I'm going to stop taking these meds and just deal with the symptoms of BPH.

While it did help reduce the number of times I had to wake up at night to urinate, it also significantly decreased my enjoyment of sex. Almost no sensation and no ejaculation whatsoever. I stopped taking this medicine, as well as others that I switched to afterwards because they all caused similar problems.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

Uroxatral was really effective for me, reducing my trips to the bathroom significantly. However, it was too expensive so I switched to Rapaflo. Unfortunately, almost immediately after starting Rapaflo my ejaculate disappeared. I'm going back to Uroxatral in hopes that my semen stream returns.

Uroxatral for Enlarged Prostate with Urination Problems

Flomax didn't work out for me because it led to some pretty unfortunate side effects during sex. Uroxatral is a bit better in that regard, but unfortunately does not provide the same level of urinary control as Flomax. I'm currently considering getting my prostate removed.

Optilume vs Rezum for Enlarged Prostate

18+
Male
Montréal, Canada

Lower urinary symptoms (LUTS) affect older men and their frequency and severity increase with age. According to Berry et al., the histological diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) increases from 25% in the group age between 40 to 49 years to 80% in the group age between 70 to 79 years (1). However, this hyperplasia can lead to a bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) secondary to benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), causing storage and voiding symptoms, associated with a considerable impairment of the quality of life (2). Surgical therapy of BPH has continuously evolved in recent years. The current gold standard for the endoscopic treatment of BPH is the transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Other innovative techniques were developed including Urolift, transurethral laser enucleation (holmium, thulium) and Aquablation therapy. One of the latest technologies for the management of BPH are Optilume BPH Catheter System (Optilume®, Urotronic Inc, Minneapolis, USA) and Rezum Water Vapor Therapy (Rezum System, Bostocn Scientific, Marlborough, MA). The purpose of the present study is to compare between patient experience, symptom relief and functional improvement when using the Optilume BPH Catheter System (Optilume®, Urotronic Inc, Minneapolis, USA) and Rezum Water Vapor Therapy (Rezum System, Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA).

Traditional vs Top-Down HoLEP for Enlarged Prostate

18+
Male
Thunder Bay, Canada

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the non-malignant enlargement of the prostate gland, places pressure on the urethra and causes urination difficulties and bladder problems. Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) secondary to BPH is a common condition in aging men, with an overall prevalence of more than 50% in those older than 50 years of age. Men with LUTS often experience sexual dysfunction including ejaculatory loss, painful ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction, which among other complications can also lead to a decreased quality of life. Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), first reported by Fraundorfer et al in 1998, is a more recent step in the evolution of holmium laser prostatectomy. HOLEP offers patients the alternative of being treated endoscopically with minimal blood loss, short catheterization time, and decreased hospital stay. One noted drawback to HoLEP, and the primary reason why it has yet to become the new standard for treatment of symptomatic BPH, is the complexity of this procedure, with a prolonged learning curve. Modifications to the procedure have thus been explored in order to address this limitation. The "Top-Down" HoLEP technique is a novel technique which offers potential benefits to the Traditional HoLEP procedure, including decreased complexity, a reduced learning curve, with anticipated improved continence. This study will compare the operating time between the Top-Down Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and the Traditional HoLEP for the treatment of patients with symptomatic bladder outlet obstruction due to BPH in Northwestern Ontario.
