Effectiveness

How Solosec Affects Patients

Secnidazole is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial and protozoal infections. It works by targeting certain anaerobic bacteria and parasites, like Bacteroides fragilis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia. Taking secnidazole may slightly increase the length of your heart's electrical cycle, but it is not considered to be harmful.

How Solosec works in the body

Secnidazole works by releasing reactive molecules when they enter a pathogen. These molecules damage the DNA of the pathogen, preventing it from reproducing and leading to its death. This type of drug is very effective against Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria, and _T. vaginalis_.

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed measure of Solosec is contingent upon the identified affliction, for example Trichomoniasis, Bacterial Vaginosis and Trichomonas Vaginitis. The dose likewise changes as indicated by the technique of conveyance (e.g. Oral or Granule - Oral) featured in the table beneath.

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

While the taste is certainly not great, it's manageable. I would recommend drinking it with a smoothie or something similar to help mask the flavor. So far, no side effects!

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

Even though this medication tasted terrible, it was worth it because my problem cleared up within a day. I've tried other medications like Flagyl and Clindeese, but neither of them worked. This is been ongoing for months and I think this medication finally did the trick. Hopefully it stays gone.

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

The taste was really tough to get over, but the medication itself is effective. I'm not sure if there are other options out there that might be more pleasant, but I'll definitely be asking my doctor about it.

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

I read the reviews before taking this, which was helpful. I learned that alcohol shouldn't be consumed while on this medication, so I haven't had a drink and won't for the duration of the treatment. The taste is bitter but tolerable; mixing it with non-dairy yogurt helps. On day two now and feeling fine--no side effects to speak of yet. Fingers crossed it works!

It was unpleasant, but it did the job it intended to. Unfortunately, it may have done too good of a job as I'm now quite dried out.

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

I was a first time user and sprinkled the medication on top of vanilla yogurt. The taste was bitter, but the yogurt helped. I then drank a glass of water; however, the taste lingered. That evening, I had one glass of wine and felt very sick afterwards (nauseous and dizzy). It's possible that my reaction is due to my small stature (5'2" and 108 lbs)? Or maybe because I don't drink often? Either way, I still don't feel great this morning--there's also been some discharge over 24 hours later.

Solosec for Vaginosis caused by Bacteria

The first time I took this medication, I made the mistake of mixing it with applesauce and ended up vomiting. It also has a terrible metallic taste. My doctor gave me two samples, but due to Covid-19, I didn't want to go to the office so I decided to try again. This time, I made a smoothie with a lot of fruits, spinach, yogurt almond milk and ginger to mask the taste. You have to mix it well and swallow it whole.

Mixing it in chocolate pudding makes it more palatable. I saw some improvement after the first day, but by Day 5 I was back at square one.

Do not take this medication if you plan on consuming alcohol. I had a very unpleasant experience of vomiting for five hours straight after only two glasses of wine.

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Does SOLOSEC cure BV?

"Solosec is not approved to prevent BV, only to treat it. It is not known if it is safe to use to prevent infections, which might cause Solosec and other similar medications to not work well in treating future infections."

Answered by AI

What is SOLOSEC used for?

"- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved SOLOSEC (secnidazole) 2 g oral granules for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis in female patients 12 years of age and older and trichomoniasis in patients 12 years of age and older.

SOLOSEC is a medication indicated for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. It is available in the form of oral granules. The granules should be taken twice a day for four consecutive days. The recommended dosage for adults is 2 g per day. For children weighing less than 50 kg, the recommended dosage is 1 g per day."

Answered by AI

How long does it take SOLOSEC to work?

"A statistically significant greater percentage of patients experienced clinical response, Nugent score cure, and therapeutic response when taking SOLOSEC compared to placebo, based on data from both trials. These results were achieved at Day 7-14 in Trial 2, and at 21 to 30 days following a single dose of SOLOSEC in both trials."

Answered by AI

Does SOLOSEC treat yeast infection?

"People should avoid having sex until they and their sex partners are treated for trichomoniasis. This will help prevent reinfection. Secnidazole will not treat fungal (yeast) infections."

Menstrual Cups for Vaginal Infections

15 - 35
Female
Chicago, IL

HIV remains a global pandemic with 37 million infected. In western Kenya, 16% of women in the general population and 29% of the poorest women have HIV. The HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) epidemics overlap with broader reproductive health concerns. Menstrual hygiene management is a big problem in low- and middle-income countries and a lack of menstrual products negatively impacts women's work-life. This comes from cultural taboos, stigma, and discrimination, promoting secrecy around menstruation, high cost of menstrual products, use of traditional materials (e.g. rags, cotton wool, etc.) causing leakage and odor, and lack of water and safe hygiene facilities. Menstrual cups designed for use during sex may help women prevent Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and STIs through hygienic period practices, and may help them avoid bad practices in an attempt to maintain vaginal dryness. The goal of this interventional trial is to test the impact of menstrual cups on vaginal microbiome, BV, and STIs of poor women at high risk for STIs and HIV. We predict to see 25% less BV, our primary outcome, over one year. This trial aims to learn more about the safety of the intervention, and understand what is needed to fully implement the program.
