What is Tussicaps

HydrocodoneThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryHydrocodone is a powerful painkiller that is usually taken in combination with acetaminophen to treat moderate to severe pain. It used to be used as a cough suppressant but has since been replaced by dextromethorphan in cough and cold medicines. Hydrocodone’s more potent metabolite, hydromorphone, is sometimes prescribed for severe pain. Hydrocodone was first approved for use by the FDA in 1943 as part of the cough suppressant syrup Hycodan.

Effectiveness

How Tussicaps Affects PatientsHydrocodone is a painkiller that works by blocking pain signals from reaching the brain. It also produces feelings of euphoria, slowed breathing, and drowsiness.
How Tussicaps works in the bodyHydrocodone works by targeting two kinds of opioid receptors in the body: mu and delta. It binds to these receptors, stopping nerve signals that would normally lead to pain. It also affects the brain's reward system, producing a feeling of pleasure. Hydrocodone also has an inhibitory effect on GABAergic neurons in the ventral tegmental area, leading to sedation and respiratory depression. The effects of delta opioid receptors are not as well studied but may also contribute to pain relief.

When to interrupt dosage

The recommended measure of Tussicaps is contingent upon the determined illness, including Coughing, Coughing and Chronic Pain. The exact amount of dosage is dependent upon the method of administration (e.g. Tablet, extended release - Oral or Tablet - Oral) featured in the table below.

I really liked this cough suppressant! I was hesitant to try a pill, but it worked great. No nasty taste or mess like with syrup, and it made me feel relaxed and happy without being too drowsy.

Tussicaps for Cough
I was worried that, at $4 a pill, these wouldn't work. But I was amazed--they were awesome. After a month of suffering with a sinus and upper respiratory infection that wouldn't go away, this stopped the cough the others couldn't. My chest felt like i had been beaten up until i took them. All I can say is wow and thank you!

Tussicaps for Cold Symptoms
I had a severe reaction to this medication a few hours after taking only one capsule. I was administered Benedryl (maximum dose) three times during the day, and I'm still having some reactions 24 hours later, although they are not as severe. I contacted the company to determine which ingredient most likely caused this effect so that I can avoid it in the future. This has been very scary for me, with large welts that look almost like blisters, and are very red and itchy.

Tussicaps for Cough
This medicine was very effective at suppressing my cough and stopping the burning pain in my chest. The drowsiness it caused was a bit of an issue, but since I was already out of work sick, it wasn't really a problem for me.

Tussicaps for Cold Symptoms
Tussicaps are a great option for those with an upper respiratory issue. They work quickly and last for several hours. The only downside is that they can cause lightheadedness if taken on an empty stomach, but it's a small price to pay for the relief they provide.
