How Thiothixene Affects PatientsThiothixene is an older type of antipsychotic medication that belongs to the thioxanthene class. It is similar to piperazine phenothiazines and different from aliphatic phenothiazines. It was commonly used to treat schizophrenia in the past, but is less commonly used today compared to newer medications such as risperidone.
How Thiothixene works in the bodyThiothixene works as a blocker on certain receptors in the brain, such as dopamine, serotonin, histamine, and acetylcholine. It has different effects on productive and unproductive symptoms, including anti-anxiety, anti-depressive, anti-aggressive, and anti-nausea properties. It can also lead to weight gain, lowered blood pressure, sedation, and difficulty ejaculating. She's been trying different drugs to treat her disorder for awhile now and this is by far the best one she's found. But now they're telling her it's not going to be available anymore and she's really worried that she won't be able to find an effective replacement.
