How Dalmane Affects PatientsFlurazepam is a type of medicine used to help people fall asleep. It helps reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and the number of times you wake up during the night, resulting in a longer total sleep time. It does not appear to decrease dreaming time as measured by eye movements.
How Dalmane works in the bodyFlurazepam works by attaching to GABA receptors in the brain and making them more sensitive to the effects of GABA. This increases the amount of chloride entering the cells, leading to a calming effect.

5/9/2009 I have found that I am unable to get more than four hours of sleep on the current dosage. Additionally, I have experienced night sweats, forgetfulness, and blurred vision after taking it.

1/14/2010 It took a few hours for me to start feeling sleepy after taking the medication, but it was well worth it. I woke up feeling rested and refreshed. The only downside is that there was a weird metal taste in my mouth when I woke up, but that's a small price to pay for a good night's sleep.

2/3/2012 Insomnia had been a long-standing issue for me, so I've tried many different medications. Ambien led to some really strange behaviors like sleep-cooking and driving. Dalmane works better for me in that I don't have any hangover effects; however, sometimes I do wake up feeling pretty down. Not sure if it's the medication or not.

3/15/2014 I find that dalmane is effective in helping me fall asleep, though I do still wake up occasionally throughout the night. One downside is that it gives me some wild dreams; however, I've come to prefer this over not being able to sleep at all.

9/20/2009 I started with the 60 mg dosage and saw some benefits the first night. I slept for 8 hours, which is pretty good for me. However, the second night I only got 5 hours of sleep. I'm hoping tonight will be better. The taste is also really bitter and doesn't seem to go away.
