Acetylsalicylic acid

The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Acetylsalicylic acid, more commonly known as Aspirin, is a drug used to reduce pain and fever. It is a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor and is available in various doses and forms, such as chewable tablets, suppositories, and extended release formulations. Long-term use of Acetylsalicylic acid may also lower the risk of certain types of cancer. Aspirin is very dangerous for young children and should always be kept out of reach.

Effectiveness

How Robaxisal Affects Patients

Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) helps to reduce pain, fever, and the risk of heart attack or stroke by blocking the production of prostaglandins and thromboxane A2. Prostaglandins are substances that cause pain and inflammation, while thromboxane A2 is responsible for clot formation. Studies have also suggested that taking ASA for a long period of time may help to reduce the risk of certain types of cancers, such as stomach, colorectal, pancreatic, and liver cancer. More research is needed to confirm this.

How Robaxisal works in the body

Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) prevents pain-causing molecules from forming. It does this by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). This enzyme helps turn a molecule called arachidonic acid into pain-causing molecules, so blocking it stops the production of those molecules. ASA is also able to block cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), but it has to be in higher doses to do this. ASA can also prevent blood clots by blocking the formation of a molecule called thromboxane A2, which helps make platelets

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed dosage of Robaxisal is contingent upon the recognized condition, including Juvenile arthritis, Transient Ischemic Attack and Unstable Angina Pectoris. The amount additionally relies on the technique of delivery (e.g. Paste - Dental or Kit; Liquid; Ointment; Swab; Tablet - Oral; Topical) featured in the table beneath.

Robaxisal for Sudden Uncontrolled Muscle Contraction with Pain

I didn't realize how much this drug was helping me until I ran out and had to go without it. I wish it came in a stronger strength than 750mg. My doctor says it has fewer side effects than soma, but I feel like soma works better for me.

Robaxisal for Sudden Uncontrolled Muscle Contraction with Pain

I was in a car accident in 1996 and had some pretty severe injuries. I've been using this medication since then and it's helped, but I wish it were stronger.

BEAR Program for Suicidal Thoughts

18 - 75
Female
Stanford, CA

The current study aims to test the feasibility of a new form of group therapy for women who have a history of interpersonal trauma and current suicidal ideation. The Building Empowerment and Resilience (BEAR) Therapeutic group has been adapted for women who have experienced trauma and have current suicidal ideation. It incorporates psychological skills, psychoeducation about trauma and gender-based violence, and physical self-defense training, all within a therapeutic process. It will be implemented with women who have experienced interpersonal trauma (physical, sexual, or emotional abuse/neglect) and experience various mental health difficulties, including suicidal ideation. We aim to assess the feasibility to recruit and implement the BEAR group. Our ultimate aim is to assess whether the program can effect self-efficacy and suicidal ideation.

Eplerenone for Preeclampsia

18 - 45
Female
Iowa City, IA

The purpose of this investigation is to examine the role of inappropriate mineralocorticoid receptor activation in endothelial dysfunction and vascular inflammation in otherwise healthy women with a history of preeclampsia. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Does overactivation of the mineralocorticoid receptor contribute to reduced endothelial function in women who had preeclampsia? 2. To what extent does the mineralocorticoid receptor mediated exaggerated production of inflammatory cytokines in immune cells from women who had preeclampsia? Participants will visit the research laboratory for 2 experimental visits: * Visit 1: Skin blood flow will be measured using a minimally invasive technique (intradermal microdialysis for the local delivery of pharmaceutical agents) to examine blood vessels in a nickel-sized area of the skin. * Visit 2: Endothelial cells will be collected from an antecubital vein.

Haskap Berries for Exercise Performance Recovery

18 - 35
All Sexes
Bozeman, MT

The purpose of this clinical trial is to determine how certain food items affect oxidative stress, inflammation, and performance recovery from exercise induced muscle damage in a resistance trained population. The main questions The investigators aim to answer are the following: * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of oxidative stress and inflammation markers after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * Do Haskaps speed the recovery of performance measures after an intense lower body workout in resistance trained adults? * The data collected in this investigation may also be used to ask additional questions not yet identified. For example, the investigators may use the stored samples to evaluate how the blood metabolites of participants differ before and after intense exercise. These additional questions are called secondary analyses. Please note that no genetic analysis will be conducted and racial and ethnic differences among participants will not be used in any secondary analyses. Researches will compare Haskap juice to a color, flavor and carbohydrate matched placebo to see if Haskaps speed recovery in inflammation, oxidative stress and performance. * Participants will be asked to drink either Haskap juice or placebo and follow a low polyphenolic diet * Participants will perform an intense resistance workout * Participants will have their blood drawn before and after the workout * Performance will be analyzed at 24, 48 and 72 hours after the workout

Hemodialysis Timing for Kidney Failure

18+
All Sexes
Stanford, CA

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the feasibility of two different preoperative hemodialysis schedules for people with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) who undergo surgical procedures. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is it feasible to randomize participants with ESKD undergoing nonemergent surgical procedures to same-day hemodialysis versus no same-day hemodialysis? Is it safe to randomize participants with ESKD undergoing nonemergent surgical procedures to same-day hemodialysis versus no same-day hemodialysis? Researchers will compare the two hemodialysis schedules to see if the scheduling and safety profiles are the same. Participants will: Answer questions about their health up to 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after the surgical procedure. Receive hemodialysis on the day of the surgical procedure or not, depending on the study treatment assignment.

Psilocybin Therapy for Anxiety and Depression in Cancer

18 - 85
All Sexes
Seattle, WA

This phase II trial tests the safety, side effects and how well group retreat psilocybin therapy works for the treatment of anxiety and depression in patients with solid tumors that have spread from where they first started (primary site) to other places in the body (metastatic) or with hematologic cancers for which no treatment is currently available (incurable). For patients with metastatic, incurable cancer, unrelieved anxiety and existential distress can cause profound suffering. Psilocybin therapy can relieve anxiety and existential distress by disrupting patterns of thinking that contribute to anxiety and depression. Psilocybin is a substance being studied in the treatment of anxiety or depression in patients with cancer. In this study, a pharmaceutical grade of psilocybin will be used that has been approved by the FDA for research, provided by Filament Health. Psilocybin acts on the brain by resetting the brain's activity and increasing connections between brain regions, particularly those involved in mood regulation and self-perception. In this study psilocybin is combined with structured discussions and reflections that enable patients to have new insights about their situation. In a prior study, group retreat psilocybin therapy was proven to be safe and this study tests a refined dosing regimen for symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with metastatic solid tumors or incurable hematologic malignancies.
