LD50 of acetaminophen is 338 mg/kg for mice and 1944 mg/kg for rats. An overdose of acetaminophen can cause kidney damage, low blood sugar, low platelet levels, and liver damage that can lead to death or the need for a liver transplant. Long-term use of acetaminophen has been found to increase the risk of leukemia in female rats, but not in male rats or mice. Acetaminophen has not been found to be mutagenic, but it can cause chromosomal changes at high doses. Acetaminophen has not been shown to affect fertility or cause any major birth defects
