What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this study is to test whether the peer support program is acceptable, possible, and can improve mental health among individuals accessing hormone care. Eligible participants will be enrolled and randomized to the support program or enhanced usual care arm. Participants will take part in this study for 6 months.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for English-speaking adults over 18 in Michigan who are starting or already receiving hormone care and show signs of depression or anxiety (with PHQ9 or GAD scores of 5 or more). They must be open to joining peer support group meetings, which can be online or face-to-face.

Inclusion Criteria

I am starting or currently getting hormone therapy in Michigan.
I have moderate depression or anxiety based on PHQ9 or GAD scores.
I am open to joining support group meetings.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Treatment

Participants are enrolled and randomized to either the peer support program or enhanced usual care arm for 6 months

6 months
Multiple one-on-one and group sessions, both in-person and virtual

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after treatment

4 weeks

Trial Overview

The study aims to see if a peer support program can help improve mental health among those getting hormone treatment. Participants will either join the new support program or receive enhanced usual care, with their experiences compared after six months.
