Oxymetazoline

The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Oxymetazoline is a medication that works by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors. It is available in various formulations and is used to treat facial redness, nasal congestion, and acquired blepharoptosis (ptosis). OTC intranasal sprays are used to relieve symptoms of the common cold, hay fever, and other upper respiratory allergies. Oxymetazoline is also used for regional anesthesia during dental procedures in both children and adults. In July 2020, the FDA approved the use of an ophthalmic formulation of oxymetazoline for the first time.

Effectiveness

How Rhofade Affects Patients

Oxymetazoline is a medication that helps to narrow the blood vessels, reducing blood flow. It has a strong affinity for two types of adrenergic receptors (α1A- and α2B-adrenoceptors) and has a long-lasting effect when used intranasally to relieve nasal congestion. Studies have also shown that oxymetazoline has antioxidant properties, which helps protect cells from damage caused by oxidants related to inflammation.

How Rhofade works in the body

Oxymetazoline works by activating certain receptors on the cells in the body. This triggers a reaction that causes the muscles to contract, and promotes constriction of the blood vessels. This reduces swelling and inflammation in the area. This drug is commonly used to treat redness on the face due to rosacea, to lift drooping eyelids, and to reduce nasal congestion. It is also often used in combination with other drugs for local anesthesia in dentistry, to counteract the vasodilatory effects of the anesthesia.

When to interrupt dosage

The suggested dosage of Rhofade is contingent upon the determined condition, including Regional Anesthesia, weight 40 kg or more and Hay Fever. The dosage amount is contingent upon the technique of delivery (e.g. Solution - Nasal or Solution) featured in the table beneath.

Rhofade Reviews: What are patients saying about Rhofade?

Rhofade for Acne Rosacea

I had tried a number of topical treatments from my dermotologist, such as Mirvaso, Desonide Lotion, Finacea and Metronidazole cream, before trying Rhofade. This one did the trick; it is amazing. I had terribly hot red skin that would show up after around noon during the day, but one application of Rhofade in the morning after my shower moisturizes and keeps the rosecea redness away from ever appearing ALL DAY. It was a miracle-- though very expensive, it was well worth it.

Rhofade for Acne Rosacea

I've used Mirvaso in the past and had terrible rebound flushing, but Rhofade doesn't have that same problem. In fact, it might have even helped with the redness permanently!

Tirzepatide + Exercise for Obesity

30 - 65
All Sexes
Charlottesville, VA

This is clinical trials is to evaluate the effect of exercise with weight loss medication compared to weight loss alone. The study will enroll 24 adults from 30-65 years old with overweight or obesity. The main questions it will answer includes: * Does exercise combined with weight loss medication reduce body weight and body fat more than weight loss medication alone * Does exercise combined with weight loss medication improve other risk factors more such as the sugar in the blood, cholesterol, fitness, and quality of life Participants will: * Take a weight loss medication (tirzepatide) monthly under the supervision of their primary care physician * (Exercise group only) Will perform exercise \~3 times a week at the University of Virginia). Walking on a treadmill and resistance training * Visit the study site at the beginning of the study and after the study to evaluate weight, body fat, and other health measures

Healthy Eating Program for Childhood Obesity

2 - 21
All Sexes
Cincinnati, OH

Infants from low-income families are at increased risk for obesity, but obesity prevention programs tailored specifically to the needs of these infants are lacking. Our team developed Healthy Eating for My Infant (HEMI) to address the specific obesity risk factors, barriers to health behaviors, and needs articulated by community members and low-income families (e.g., maternal mental health, realistic feeding options within the context of food insecurity). The current study will examine the feasibility and acceptability of HEMI delivered via home visiting, as well as preliminary efficacy for improving infant growth trajectories, diet, and parenting/feeding factors related to future obesity risk among infants from low-income families.

Eating Behavior Assessment for Childhood Obesity

7 - 9
All Sexes
State College, PA

This study will explore how children's eating behaviors are connected to brain activity and body fat levels. Researchers are especially interested in a behavior pattern called the PACE phenotype, which includes how much children eat when offered large portions, how quickly they eat, their appetite traits, and their ability to control eating. The goal is to better understand why some children are more likely to gain weight than others. The study will include children between the ages of 7 and 9 and will follow them for one year. Researchers will use brain scans, lab-based meal observations, and questionnaires to study how children respond to food and how their eating patterns relate to body fat at the start of the study and one year later. The study will also look at how family background, parenting, and other factors might protect some children from gaining excess weight even if they show risky eating behaviors. Results may help identify which children are most at risk for obesity and guide future strategies for prevention.
