Effectiveness

How Prevacid 24 Hr Affects PatientsLansoprazole works by blocking an enzyme (H+,K+-ATPase), which is the last step in the process of the stomach producing acid. This drug can be taken at any time of the day and works to reduce both daytime and nighttime acid production. It is effective in healing duodenal ulcers, relieving pain related to ulcers, and reducing symptoms of heartburn. Additionally, it can reduce the amount of pepsin produced, making it useful in treating conditions with high acid production, like Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
How Prevacid 24 Hr works in the bodyLansoprazole is a type of drug known as a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). It only works when it is exposed to an acidic environment, which causes it to react with certain molecules on the surface of cells. This reaction forms a bond that prevents acid from being secreted. This bond is strong, so lansoprazole can provide long-term inhibition of acid secretion.

Prevacid 24 Hr for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
I had been taking the generic version of Prilosec for 3 years, but it stopped being effective. I tried taking two pills a day, which helped some, but not all the time. Then I switched to Prevacid and it worked wonderfully--until my prescription coverage said they would no longer pay for it. Thankfully, my doctor was able to get prior approval so that I could keep taking it.

Prevacid 24 Hr for Excessive Production of Stomach Acid
This medication does a great job of preventing acid reflux and Acid Aspiration Syndrome. However, the trade-off is that I experience a lot of gas. It's not your typical 'silent but deadly' gas either; this is the kind that will clear a room. Not ideal, but it's worth it to be able to sleep without fear of aspirating stomach acid.

Prevacid 24 Hr for Condition in which Stomach Acid is Pushed Into the Esophagus
I've been taking this medication for over a month to relieve stomach discomfort. Unfortunately, it comes with the side effect of anal irritation, itching and swelling. I used to take pantoprazole (prescription), but my HMO upped the copay so much that I had to switch.

Prilosec had been treating my acid reflux for years, but it suddenly stopped working in February. I tried taking two pills a day, but that didn't help at all. My pharmacist recommended Prevacid, and after ten days of taking it, I finally feel relief.

I had really bad GERD and tried a bunch of different drugs that didn't help much. But then I found Prevacid. It's been great! I take 30 mg every morning and haven't had any problems since. The generic works just as well as the brand name, so definitely try it if you're suffering from GERD.

I switched to Prevacid from Aciphex because I kept getting urinary tract infections, and it's helped with that issue. However, now my scalp is constantly itchy, which is very irritating.
