Effectiveness

How Peridex Affects PatientsChlorhexidine is an antibiotic that fights bacteria and viruses. Its effectiveness depends on the amount taken - at lower doses, it will prevent bacteria from growing, and at higher doses, it will kill bacteria. Chlorhexidine is also able to stick to surfaces like dentine, preventing bacteria from colonizing it. However, if taken for long periods of time, it may cause staining of teeth and other oral surfaces. Allergic reactions to chlorhexidine may also occur, including anaphylaxis.
How Peridex works in the bodyChlorhexidine kills bacteria by interfering with their cell membranes. Chlorhexidine is positively charged and reacts with the negatively charged phosphate groups on the cells of bacteria. This reaction destroys the integrity of the cell, letting out its contents, and allows the chlorhexidine to enter the cell and cause it to die. The strength of the chlorhexidine determines whether it is bacteriostatic (slows down bacteria growth) or bactericidal (kills bacteria).

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Peridex is contingent upon the determined disorder, including Wound, Oral Hygiene and Ringworm. The amount additionally shifts as per the technique of delivery (e.g. Rinse or Cream; Kit; Ointment; Solution) mentioned in the table beneath.

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
I've used Peridex since I lost five teeth to bone loss and gum disease. It's kept my gums healthy and I haven't had any problems since. If only I had known about this product sooner, I could have saved my teeth!

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
I unfortunately had to stop using this product after only two tries. My tongue swelled and burned painfully, my face turned bright red, and I got hives all over my body. Be sure to read the precautions before use!

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
I saw a significant reduction in inflammation after only two days of use. I don't know why there isn't more awareness about this drug; it could really help a lot of people. That said, I worry about the potential side effects.

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
After just two days of using this rinse as directed by my dentist, I've seen a significant reduction in gum inflammation and bleeding. Can't wait to see how long it takes for the bleeding to stop altogether! This drug is great--it leaves your mouth feeling very clean.

Peridex for Mouth Infection Prevention
After my crown lengthening procedure, my dentist gave me a bottle of this to use. I had been using Listerine and ACT mouthwashes regularly before the procedure, so I don't know how effective this was in preventing infection. However, my gum healed satisfactorily within a week's time.

Peridex for Sore Mouth due to Dentures or Poor Oral Hygiene
I had a dead tooth removed and was using this product as instructed twice daily. After finishing one bottle, I noticed my teeth were very stained by the gums. This has never happened before and I'm concerned about potential damage to my teeth.

Peridex for Mouth Infection Prevention
After having five teeth extracted, my periodontist recommended this product to keep my mouth clean while it healed. However, after just one use I experienced burning on my tongue and itchiness around my face - worse than the discomfort of the extraction sites. I used it a second time, not making the connection, and had the same reaction. Needless to say, I will not be using this product again.

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
I unfortunately had a negative reaction to this medication. I suffer from SVTs, so I'm more sensitive to medications than most people. This one caused my heart to go out of rhythm and made me lightheaded, and these effects lasted for around four hours.

This medication definitely works to clean my gums, but the aftertaste is incredibly bitter. I understand why they say not to drink anything afterwards, because everything tastes terrible anyway.

Peridex for Inflammation of the Gums
Despite reading and following all instructions, after 3 doses, I found my tongue had turned brown, my teeth had darkened, and my taste was way off. 3 days later, my gums are still irritated, I had a metallic taste in my mouth and my tongue and teeth are still dark.

Peridex for Mouth Infection Prevention
I've been taking this medication for two days now and have developed a very sore throat, which is unfortunately a common side effect. I hope it goes away soon; other than that, my gums have been feeling better since starting the treatment.

SALI-10 Oral Probiotics for Gum Disease

18 - 70
All Sexes
Toronto, Canada
Gingivitis is among the most prevalent oral diseases worldwide, affecting an estimated 50-90% of adults. It is a reversible condition primarily caused by microbial plaque accumulation on teeth and gingival surfaces, which triggers inflammation. Standard care emphasizes plaque reduction through oral hygiene, and research shows gingivitis can be reversed once hygiene resumes. The classic experimental gingivitis (EG) model developed in 1965 by Löe and Silness demonstrated the direct link between plaque buildup and gingival inflammation, further confirming that gingival health can be restored after resuming proper care. Microbial ecology shifts are central to gingivitis pathogenesis. In health, the oral microbiome is dominated by gram-positive Streptococcus species. With plaque accumulation, microbial communities transition to gram-negative periopathogens such as Porphyromonas, Tannerella, Treponema, and Prevotella. This dysbiosis provokes heightened inflammation, tissue damage, and, in susceptible individuals, progression to periodontitis. Individual variability in the inflammatory response has been associated with differences in the presence and activity of beneficial streptococci. Certain strains of Streptococcus salivarius produce lantibiotics called salivaricins-polycyclic antimicrobial peptides containing lanthionine residues. Salivaricins inhibit oral pathogens and have been investigated for their antimicrobial and probiotic properties, particularly in the context of rising antibiotic resistance. Probiotic S. salivarius strains isolated from healthy individuals have demonstrated safety and antimicrobial potential in previous studies, supporting their use in preventing oral and respiratory infections. A strain of S. salivarius designated SALI-10 produces a lantibiotic, Salivaricin 10, and is being evaluated as a candidate for gingivitis prevention. This strain is hypothesized to (1) help stabilize populations of beneficial streptococci during plaque accumulation, (2) competitively inhibit periopathogens such as Porphyromonas and Prevotella, and (3) suppress the dysbiotic shift toward gram-negative dominance. By contributing to microbial balance and reducing inflammatory triggers, SALI-10 may support resilient host-microbe interactions associated with gingival health. This approach may offer a dual antimicrobial and microbiome-stabilizing strategy with relevance to gingivitis management and longer-term periodontal health.

Lidocaine Infusions for Postoperative Pain

18+
All Sexes
Nashville, TN
The goal of this single-center, pragmatic, randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial is to evaluate the impact of intravenous (IV) lidocaine within the existing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)program on outcomes in patients after major abdominal surgery. The main questions the trial aims to answer are: The primary hypothesis is that utilization of IV lidocaine as part of a perioperative multimodal pain regimen will result in a reduction in hospital Case Mix Index-Adjusted Resource Length of Stay (CARLOS). The secondary hypotheses are that lidocaine infusion will result in a reduction in total inpatient opioid consumption (oral morphine milligram equivalents, oMMEs) and pain scores, and improved surgical outcomes (including return of bowel function, ileus, nausea, rapid responses called, surgical site infections, and ICU transfers), while also having minimal incidence of side effects (including double/blurry vision, tinnitus, sedation, and adverse events requiring early cessation).

Guided Imagery Therapy for Abdominal Pain

7 - 12
All Sexes
Austin, TX
Chronic abdominal pain is common among children, and the majority of cases are attributed to functional abdominal pain disorders. One approach to treating these disorders is by using psychological therapies. This clinical trial aims to see how well pre-recorded guided imagery therapy sessions help children's abdominal pain when delivered via a mobile application (app) on a smartphone or tablet. Participants will complete a baseline abdominal pain and stooling diary to determine eligibility, as well as other surveys. Eligible participants will be given access to the guided imagery therapy mobile application. This intervention asks participants to listen to a 10- to 15-minute GIT session 5 out of 7 days per week for 8 weeks, in addition to their usual care for their abdominal pain. Then, participants will complete another abdominal pain and stooling diary, along with other psychometric surveys, at the end of this intervention period. Participants will also collect another diary and surveys 3 months post-treatment.

Erector Spinae Plane Block for Pain

21 - 75
All Sexes
Cleveland, OH
As per usual care for spine surgery, participants will have their back cleaned with alcohol and a needle will be placed using ultrasound for the ESP block. Through the needle, a small catheter will be placed in the participants back and the needle removed. Approximately one hour prior to the start of surgery, a numbing medication (ropivacaine, similar to Novocaine) in combination with dexmedetomidine (a pain medicine that is used in nerve block and that is not a narcotic) and contrast dye (iohexol) will be injected through the catheter. Participants will then go through the QST procedure (test of buzzing sensation and temperature sensation through pads applied to their skin) to assess the numb areas and then head to the operating room. In the operating room, the catheter will be removed after the surgeon obtains baseline CT scan images of the spine. Once surgery is completed, investigators will record pain scores over the next four days in the hospital and the amount of pain medication needed for controlling pain related to the surgery.

Motivational Interviewing for Oral Hygiene

14 - 19
All Sexes
Birmingham, AL
This study is being conducted to explore how motivational interviewing (MI), A patient-centered counseling method, can help improve oral health awareness and practices in adolescents undergoing orthodontic treatment. Adolescents often struggle to maintain good oral hygiene during orthodontic care, which can lead to complications such as gum disease, tooth decay, and poor treatment outcomes. Participants in this study will receive brief, structured conversations focused on encouraging them to set goals and take responsibility for their oral health. These interviews are designed to be non-judgmental and supportive, helping the participants explore their own motivations for keeping their teeth and gums healthy during braces treatment. The study will take place at a pediatric dentistry clinic and will involve adolescents aged approximately 14 to 19 who are receiving orthodontic care. The goal is to assess whether this type of communication improves their oral hygiene behaviors and outcomes compared to standard oral health education. Findings from this research may help pediatric dentists and orthodontists improve how they engage adolescent patients in taking care of their oral health.
