Effectiveness
How Feldene Affects Patients
Piroxicam is a type of medicine called a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. It is used to help relieve pain, swelling and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
How Feldene works in the body
Piroxicam reduces inflammation by blocking an enzyme called Cox-1. This enzyme is responsible for producing prostaglandins, which are chemicals that cause inflammation. Piroxicam also prevents white blood cells from entering sites of inflammation and stops platelets from making a chemical that causes clots.

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.
Is Feldene the same as ibuprofen?
"Both piroxicam and ibuprofen are NSAIDs that relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Piroxicam is only available with a prescription, but ibuprofen is available without a prescription (over-the-counter)."
Answered by AI
What is Feldene tablets used for?
"The drug Feldene is intended to provide relief from the symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis. However, because of potential safety concerns (as described in sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 of the accompanying literature), Feldene should not be the first choice of medication if an anti-inflammatory drug is needed."
Answered by AI
Is Feldene still on the market?
"The group then characterized the drug as an "imminent hazard to the public health" and urged the FDA to ban prescriptions of Feldene to people aged 60 and older, who are most at risk for severe side effects. However, after conducting a review, the FDA decided that Feldene should remain on the market."
