Effectiveness

How Exemestane Affects PatientsAromatase is an enzyme that turns hormones into estrogen in the adrenal glands. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are drugs that lower the amount of estrogen in the body by blocking aromatase in the adrenal glands. Selective AIs (SAIs) decrease levels of estrogen without touching other steroid hormones made by the adrenal gland. Examples of SAIs include anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane.
How Exemestane works in the bodyExemestane is a drug used to treat breast cancer in post-menopausal women. It works by blocking the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogens. This reduces the amount of estrogen in the body, which can slow or even stop the growth of certain types of breast cancer. Exemestane binds to the aromatase enzyme and permanently stops it from working, meaning new enzymatic function must be created to replace it. Exemestane does not affect other enzymes in the process of hormone production, and it has no effect on corticosteroids or aldosterone. By reducing estrogen levels

Exemestane for Advanced Breast Cancer Progression Post-Antiestrogen Therapy
I don't experience many negative side effects from this medication, which is great. The only downside is that sometimes I feel tired and have hot flashes.

Exemestane for Hormone Receptor Positive Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer After Adjuvant Tamoxifen
I've been on this medication for seven years now, and I haven't missed a dose yet! I'm hoping to be able to stop taking it this fall. It hasn't been easy, but I don't want the cancer to come back either. The side effects did get better the longer I was on it, but they never totally went away. I just hope that when I stop taking it, I feel better!

Exemestane for Hormone Receptor Positive Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer After Adjuvant Tamoxifen
I've been on this blocker for a little over year now. I have experienced some joint pain and fatigue, but it's manageable. My mood is also significantly better than when I was taking Letrozol.

Exemestane for Hormone Receptor Positive Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer After Adjuvant Tamoxifen
While this medication has kept me cancer-free for two years, the side effects are becoming increasingly difficult to manage. I wake up every morning with a new pain, and it seems like all of my joints are affected. Depression and fatigue are also regular problems.

Exemestane for Breast Cancer that has Spread to Another Part of the Body
I've been sweating excessively since being on this medication, and have also put on some weight. Not sure if those side effects are from the drug or just a result of my cancer treatment/fatigue in general, but I'm grateful that the drug is available nonetheless.

Exemestane for Hormone Receptor Positive Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer After Adjuvant Tamoxifen
I am 77 and have been on Exemestane for two years now. I tried other hormone inhibitors and they have all had the same side effects for me, the worst being joint pain. Even worse is now I have osteoporosis. My bones were fine before. It appears there is something wrong with a heart valve and I am having a nuclear stress test in a month.

Exemestane for Hormone Receptor Positive Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer After Adjuvant Tamoxifen
I've been on this medication for two years now and I'm starting to experience some serious side effects. My muscles ache, my bones feel like they could misalign, and my fingers get stiff. I worry about how it's impacting my organs - kidneys, liver, lungs. I'll be calling my doctor in the morning to see if there are any other options.

Exemestane for Prevention of Breast Cancer
Unfortunately, this medication caused me to lose hair and feel fatigued. Additionally, it was quite expensive.
