What is Evoclin

ClindamycinThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryClindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections. It can also be used topically to treat acne. Clindamycin has a limited spectrum of activity, meaning it only works against certain types of bacteria. Additionally, it holds some activity against protozoans, and is sometimes used off-label to treat toxoplasmosis, malaria, and babesiosis. Clindamycin is a semi-synthetic version of lincomycin, a naturally occurring lincosamide antibiotic, and is considered to be more effective than its predecessor. The name lincomycin comes from the city

Effectiveness

How Evoclin Affects PatientsClindamycin works by preventing bacteria from creating proteins, which stops them from multiplying. It needs to be taken every six hours to keep the antibiotic effective. Clindamycin can cause a type of diarrhea called Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) which can range from mild diarrhea to life-threatening colitis. This is why clindamycin should only be used for serious infections that cannot be treated with less harmful antibiotics. Clindamycin is effective against many types of bacteria, including both aerobes and anaerobes, however resistance to the drug may develop over time. It is recommended
How Evoclin works in the bodyClindamycin works by blocking bacteria from making proteins. It does this by binding to a part of the bacterial ribosome, which is necessary for protein formation. Clindamycin also has an effect on Propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria linked to acne. It's not clear how it works against acne, but this is likely to be one of the ways.

When to interrupt dosage

The prescribed dosage of Evoclin is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, such as viridans group streptococci, Vaginal Infections and Surgical Intervention. The amount of dosage is contingent upon the delivery approach (e.g. Cream - Vaginal or Suspension - Topical) listed in the table below.
