Effectiveness
How Desowen Affects PatientsDesonide is a type of steroid medicine used to treat skin conditions, such as inflammation and itching. It works by reducing swelling, redness, and irritation.
How Desowen works in the bodyDesonide is a topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, and constriction properties. The way it works is that it binds to receptors inside the cell, which then travel to DNA and turn on or off certain genes. Desonide also reduces inflammation by stopping the release of a molecule called arachidonic acid. This molecule helps create powerful inflammation mediators, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. By blocking the release of arachidonic acid, desonide reduces inflammation.
