It is also used with estrogen to control acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). There have been safety concerns that the use of drospirenone may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, however, studies have been conflicting. The FDA concluded that the risk of thromboembolism is still lower than the risk during pregnancy or after giving birth.

How Slynd Affects PatientsDrospirenone is an oral contraceptive that prevents pregnancy by stopping the maturation of follicles and ovulation. Slynd Toxicity & Overdose RiskDrospirenone has a low level of toxicity in rats, with an oral LD50 greater than 2000mg/kg. Overdosing on drospirenone may lead to nausea or an irregular menstrual cycle. Additionally, drospirenone can affect the levels of serum sodium and potassium, which should be monitored in cases of overdose, along with metabolic acidosis and hyperkalemia.
