Effectiveness

How Colcrys Affects PatientsColchicine helps to relieve the pain of gout and reduce flare-ups of Familial Mediterranean fever by interrupting the chemical processes that cause inflammation. It is important to be careful with this drug as a very small adjustment in the dose can make a big difference.
How Colcrys works in the bodyWe don't know the exact way colchicine works, but it likely stops inflammation by disrupting the inflammasome complex. This complex is involved in the production of an inflammatory messenger called interleukin-1. Colchicine also prevents neutrophils and other cells from adhering and producing a type of oxidative stress called superoxide. Lastly, it interferes with a type of NF-κΒ pathway that reduces inflammation. On a molecular level, colchicine is an anti-mitotic drug, meaning it stops cells from dividing by binding to tubulin and preventing microtubules from growing
