How Briviact Affects Patients

Brivaracetam binds strongly to a protein (SV2A) that plays a role in the development of epilepsy by affecting the release of GABA. It is thought that this binding is how brivaracetam helps to prevent epilepsy. Additionally, brivaracetam is thought to also prevent epilepsy by blocking certain sodium channels in the body.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

I have epilepsy and switched from Keppra to Breviact. I noticed less side effects with this new medication, such as bleeding gums, dry nasal passages and mouth, anxiety, and stuffiness.

Briviact for Simple Seizure

This medication has been effective for me at treating seizures (have not had any since starting on it), but I have had rough side effects: depression, blurry vision, losing my train of thought mid sentence, mood swings throughout the day, and irritability. I switched to it after having similar side effects while on Keppra, but Keppra wasn't as bad. I am now switching to Lamotrigine hoping that will help.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

Though this treatment is more convenient in that I only have to take two pills per day, it unfortunately has not been as effective at preventing seizures as the Keppra XR brand.

Briviact for Simple Seizure

I've only been on this for three days and I'm already struggling. The ringing in my ears is so loud that it drowns out every other noise, and it's giving me a headache. I can't stand any more noise.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

I tried this treatment once before in a trial study at UCSF, and I had visual hallucinations as a result. It's only become legal recently, so I decided to give it another shot; unfortunately, the hallucinations were just as bad as before.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

I tried this medication for two weeks, and it made me so incredibly dizzy, nauseated, and uncoordinated that I could barely function. I had to stop taking it.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

I sleep for 12 hours per day and I am still severely depressed. This medication may help reduce seizures, but it doesn't improve the quality of my life at all. I'm just a shell of my former self.

Briviact for Additional Medication to Treat Partial Seizures

This medication was completely ineffective and, unfortunately, made my seizures worse. I had some of the worst seizures of my life while taking this drug. It should not have been approved for use.
