Effectiveness

How Amzeeq Affects Patients

Minocycline is an antibiotic given to treat bacterial infections. It works by blocking the production of proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. It is usually taken 2-4 times a day, with each dose lasting a short amount of time. The maximum amount of minocycline that can be taken in 24 hours is 400mg. Patients should be warned about the potential risks associated with taking minocycline, such as problems with tooth and bone development, inflammation of the colon, central nervous system side effects, and increased pressure in the head.

How Amzeeq works in the body

Tetracyclines work by preventing the binding of amino acids to the 30S ribosome in bacterial cells, thus blocking protein synthesis. They enter the cells through porins, which are specialized proteins, and then bind to cations like magnesium. This allows them to move into the periplasm and then into the cytoplasm, where they can do their work.

When to interrupt dosage

The proposed measure of Amzeeq is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, for instance Periodontitis, Rickettsialpox and Lymphogranuloma Venereum. The volume of dosage is contingent upon the method of administration (e.g. Capsule, extended release or Tablet, film coated, extended release) as presented in the table below.

This stuff is amazing! It feels great on my skin and has helped reduce the red bumps and regular acne. The whiteheads I used to get on my jawline have diminished and any remaining ones are smaller, so I'm less prone to noticing/picking them.

Amzeeq for Acne

Amzeeq is the only acne medication that has worked for me, and I've tried a lot. You definitely have to be consistent with it, but it's worth it. The main downside is that if you're not careful, it can easily stain your clothes and pillowcases.

I've been using Amzeeq for two months now, in combination with Winlevi and Tretinoin 0.05. I started seeing benefits from Winlevi and Tretinoin long before, but haven't noticed any improvement since adding Amzeeq to the mix. On the contrary, I feel like my skin is actually worse off than it was before.

BLTR vs B-RAP for Trichiasis

18+
All Sexes
Chapel Hill, NC

The primary objective of this randomized clinical trial is to determine whether repeat trichiasis surgery performed with Bevel-Rotate Advancement Procedure (B-RAP) improves surgical success compared to Bilamellar Tarsal Rotation (BLTR) among a group of 8-10 TT surgeons in Tanzania. The study aims to enroll 1,000 individuals with PTT. The primary outcome is repeat PTT within one year after surgery. Additionally, the study will assess eyelid contour abnormalities and how they change over a two-year period as well as patient reported outcomes. If this project is successful in improving surgical outcomes, it could change the approach to treating PTT globally. Individuals with trichiasis have a significantly reduced quality of life; correcting their trichiasis long-term has the potential to improve their quality of life and their family members' quality of life considerably.

Dental Care for Pneumonia Prevention

60 - 100
All Sexes
Jefferson City, MO

The goal of this study is to learn if dental infection control treatment delivered to older adult nursing home residents at their place of residence will result in : * improved dental health * reduced risk of pneumonia * better glucose control for diabetic patients compared to the pre-project dental and general health evaluations of residents and the pre-project facility incidence of pneumonia. Dental infection control treatment includes treating gum infections, stopping or slowing decay with fluoride, and assisting residents with effective tooth brushing and denture cleaning daily. Previous studies indicate dental infections can be inhaled and cause pneumonia or make diabetes worse. A shortage of dentists has limited care for nursing home residents. This project will allow dental hygienists and specially trained dental assistants to treat nursing home residents using telehealth methods (computers, cameras, internet, and telephone) to talk and work with dentists in different locations.

Antibiotics for Gum Disease

18+
All Sexes
Birmingham, AL

Periodontitis is a bacterial inflammatory disease and antibiotic use is being empirically used as part of its treatment. However, a clinical practice guideline on periodontal treatment adjuncts published in 2015 identified weak evidence on the use of systemic antibiotics and large heterogeneity across small scale studies, suggesting that larger pragmatic clinical trials would benefit clinical decision making. This will be a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, stratified by practice and practitioner. The study will investigate the effectiveness of adjunctive antibiotics as adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) compared to SRP with placebo for the treatment of generalized stage II-III, grades A-C periodontitis in patient participants from National Dental PBRN practices. Periodontal data will be collected at baseline, re-evaluation (6 weeks), and final (4-12 months) study visits. Changes in periodontal clinical and patient-reported outcomes will be assessed to determine the effectiveness of SRP plus adjunctive systemic Amoxicillin / Metronidazole antibiotics (AMXM) versus SRP with Placebo.
