How Vyfemla Affects PatientsNorethisterone is a synthetic hormone pill used as a form of birth control or to treat other hormone-related conditions such as menopause and endometriosis. It is much stronger than the hormone progesterone that is naturally produced in the body. Norethisterone works to change the function of the cervix and uterus, as well as how the pituitary gland makes hormones that control ovulation. There is evidence that taking this pill may slightly increase the risk of developing breast cancer, so it is important to be aware of this risk and to do regular self-examinations for any changes or masses
How Vyfemla works in the bodyNorethisterone works by binding to progesterone receptors in different parts of the body, like the reproductive tract, breast, pituitary, hypothalamus, skeletal tissue and central nervous system. It thickens cervical mucus to prevent sperm from entering the uterus, and makes the endometrium inhospitable for implantation. It also works to suppress the release of hormones that cause follicles to grow and ovulation to occur.
