Treatment Summary

Firvanq is an antibacterial medication derived from Streptomyces orientalis and is related to ristocetin. It works by preventing the bacterial cell wall from forming and is toxic to the kidneys and inner ear. Firvanq is the only FDA-approved liquid form of vancomycin and is used to treat Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea and enterocolitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains. This liquid form makes it easier to access this medication than other specialty compounding products.

How Vancomycin Hydrochloride Affects Patients

Vancomycin is an antibiotic used as a last resort when other antibiotics have failed. It has been shown to be effective against a number of bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactiae, Actinomyces species, and Lactobacillus species. When taken in combination with an aminoglycoside, vancomycin has been shown to work better against certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus bovis, enterococci, and the

How Vancomycin Hydrochloride works in the body

Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to kill certain bacteria. It works by preventing two key components of the bacteria's cell wall from being added to the cell wall matrix. This weakens the bacteria's cell wall, making it more permeable and affecting its ability to make RNA. Vancomycin does not work on all types of bacteria, but it does have the benefit of not being affected by other antibiotics.

Vancomycin Hydrochloride Reviews: What are patients saying about Vancomycin Hydrochloride?

Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Clostridium Difficile Bacteria Related Colitis

Vancomycin is easy to use and it works well, for the most part. I've been on it for eight months now though, and I'm still not cured. They're considering sending me off to OSU in OH at this point.

Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Clostridium Difficile Bacteria Related Colitis

This took care of my C. diff problem, which had been recurring for five months without my knowledge. The only downside is that it's very strong and kills everything, so I'm still recovering from the treatment itself. That said, it was tolerable (just some stomach pains and nausea) and definitely worth it to get rid of the C. diff.

Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Clostridium Difficile Bacteria Related Colitis

I've been taking this medication for a while now and it has stopped my diarrhea; however, I am still taking the drug as prescribed. My blood pressure has increased, though, and I'm now also taking medication for that. Additionally, I urinate frequently (more than 12 times a day) and was told by my doctor not to drink so much water.

Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Clostridium Difficile Bacteria Related Colitis

I've been battling a severe case of C. diff for four months now, and I'm not sure what to do. I've triedFlagyl and Vancomycin, but neither seem to be working. I'm starting another medication soon, but I don't have high hopes based on the reviews I've read.

Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Clostridium Difficile Bacteria Related Colitis

Vancomycin worked great for c-diff, however, I developed Burning Mouth Syndrome about ten days after stopping the medication. This is a very painful condition that may be caused by extended use of vancomycin. Has anyone else had this experience?

After four rounds of C-diff, the ER prescribed Vanco. I couldn't afford it, so I was lucky enough to get a free week from Walgreens through a voucher from the hospital. I also got another free week from an online company by proving financial need to them. Keep trying, because it does work!

Vanco didn't work for me at all; if anything, it made my UTI symptoms worse. I'm now on Dificid and hopefully that will help.
