How Women'S Rogaine Affects Patients
Minoxidil is a drug that is taken orally and applied topically to treat high blood pressure and hair loss, respectively. It works by widening the blood vessels and increasing blood flow in the body. When taken, it has been observed to increase forearm blood flow while keeping renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate the same. Minoxidil's effects are mainly in the arteries which is why postural hypotension is not typically seen with its use. Its antihypertensive properties come from its metabolite, minoxidil sulfate.
How Women'S Rogaine works in the body
Minoxidil is believed to help hair cells survive by activating two proteins, ERK and Akt. It also increases the ratio of a protein that helps cells stay alive. Minoxidil may also help hair grow by keeping the cells in a stage that allows them to reproduce. In addition, it works as a vasodilator to open up blood vessels and help keep the hair cells healthy.
