Effectiveness
How Topicort Affects Patients
Desoximetasone is a type of medication that reduces inflammation, itching, and constricts blood vessels when applied to the skin. It is a powerful drug and should not be used with tightly sealed bandages. It should only be used for two weeks at a time and stopped once the desired results are achieved.
How Topicort works in the body
Topical steroids reduce inflammation, but how they do this is not known for sure. It's thought that they work by changing the way cells make certain molecules that cause inflammation. Steroids bind to receptors in cells and then move inside the cell and bind to DNA, which causes certain genes to be activated or turned off. This then changes the way cells make molecules like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are linked to inflammation. The process is thought to start with the drug blocking the release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes, which is needed to make these molecules.
When to interrupt dosage
The suggested dosage of Topicort is contingent upon the specified condition, for instance Atopic Dermatitis, corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses and Psoriasis. The measure can be found in the table below, contingent upon the technique of delivery (e.g. Topical or Cream - Topical).
