Effectiveness

How Thermazene Affects Patients

Silver sulfadiazine is a powerful medication that kills many types of bacteria and yeast. It does not interfere with the carbonic anhydrase enzyme, making it an ideal choice in situations where other medicines are not suitable.

How Thermazene works in the body

Silver sulfadiazine works differently than silver nitrate and sulfadiazine on bacteria. It targets the cell membrane and cell wall to kill bacteria. Scientists aren't sure how exactly it works, but think it might be a combination of silver and sulfadiazine. Silver ions bind to proteins and surface membranes, causing proton leaks and cell death. Sulfadiazine blocks a bacterial enzyme that is necessary for making folic acid.
