What is Gantrisin

Acetyl sulfisoxazole

The Generic name of this drug

Treatment Summary

Sulfisoxazole acetyl is a type of antibiotic that works by preventing bacteria from being able to make folic acid. When combined with erythromycin, it is used to treat ear infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae. It prevents the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase from combining PABA (a compound found in bacteria) with dihydrofolic acid, which is needed for making folic acid. This ultimately leads to the death of the bacteria.

Effectiveness

How Gantrisin Affects Patients

Sulfisoxazole is an antibiotic that works to stop the growth of bacteria. It works by blocking an important part of the bacteria's metabolism cycle. If bacteria are resistant to one sulfonamide, they are usually resistant to all. This drug is not generally used for meningitis anymore, but it can still be found in high levels in the cerebrospinal fluid when meningeal infections occur. Its effectiveness as an antibiotic is reduced in the presence of pus.

How Gantrisin works in the body

Sulfisoxazole works by targeting an enzyme called dihydropteroate synthetase. This enzyme is responsible for the production of folic acid in bacteria. Sulfisoxazole stops it from working correctly by blocking a reaction between a pteridine and para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Without this reaction, bacteria can't make folic acid and are unable to survive.

When to interrupt dosage

The prescribed measure of Gantrisin is contingent upon the established issue, such as the organism demonstrated to be susceptible, Sulfonamides and Toxoplasmosis. The quantity of dosage fluctuates, in line with the approach of administration depicted in the table beneath.

Gantrisin for Infection of the Middle Ear caused by Streptococcus

My daughter used to get ear infections frequently, but her doctor recommended this treatment. We gave it to her every day for four to six months, and she hasn't had an infection in ten years now!
