Effectiveness

How Prochlorperazine Edisylate Affects PatientsProchlorperazine is a medicine used to treat certain mental illnesses. It works by blocking certain chemicals in the brain, like dopamine, histamine, and acetylcholine. This can have calming effects and reduce anxiety, but can also cause drowsiness, muscle relaxation, and low blood pressure. Prochlorperazine is generally less sedating than other similar medicines, and it is less likely to increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness. It may also block the P2X7 receptor in human cells, which can help control calcium levels.
How Prochlorperazine Edisylate works in the bodyThe exact way prochlorperazine works is unknown, but it's thought to be linked to its ability to block dopamine receptors in the brain. Blocking these receptors stops them from receiving signals and increases the amount of dopamine in the body. Prochlorperazine is believed to stop nausea and vomiting by blocking serotonin and dopamine receptors in a special area of the brain called the chemoreceptor trigger zone. It also helps inhibit vomiting caused by apomorphine.

Prochlorperazine Edisylate for Nausea and Vomiting
I've been taking this medication for a long time, but since being diagnosed with MS, it's become clear that it's not good to use for severe nausea. I'm now on Tysabri and Lyrica, which are much better options if you're dealing with MS-induced nausea.
