Effectiveness

How Opcon Affects Patients

Naphazoline is a drug that helps reduce congestion by constricting the blood vessels in the nose and eyes.

How Opcon works in the body

Naphazoline is a drug which helps reduce congestion by narrowing the blood vessels. It does this by encouraging the release of a chemical called norepinephrine, which binds to receptors in the blood vessels and causes them to become narrower. Naphazoline also has mild effects on other receptors in the blood vessels which can cause them to open wider again. If naphazoline is used for too long, it can cause the body to stop producing norepinephrine, resulting in a condition called rhinitis medicamentosa.

When to interrupt dosage

The suggested measure of Opcon is contingent upon the diagnosed condition, such as Eye Pain, Sinusitis and tetracycline. The quantity of dosage is contingent upon the method of delivery (e.g. Solution / drops or Liquid - Ophthalmic) outlined in the table below.

Opcon Reviews: What are patients saying about Opcon?

Opcon for Eye Itching

Opcon-A was recommended to me by my Eye Doctor and I'm really glad I listened. It provided relief from itchy watery eyes with no harsh side effects. If you are experiencing any negative side effects, I would suggest cutting back on the amount you use. Instead of two drops in each eye, try only one.

Opcon for Eye Itching

I did experience some blurry vision for a few minutes after using this product, but I believe that can happen with any eyedrop. Additionally, it's an excellent product because it stops me from wanting to rub my eyes afterwards; as we all know, rubbing our eyes can cause trauma to the cornea.

Opcon for Red Eyes

I have used Opcon A for over 15 years to great success; however, I recently experienced a torn retina. Thankfully, emergency surgery was able to repair the damage.

Opcon for Eye Itching

I keep these allergy drops in my fridge and they work great! I use them before bed to stop the redness and itchiness I experience. My doctor was right--the cold feeling of the drops is soothing. I've never had any issues with side effects (dilation, etc.)

Opcon for Red Eyes

I've been using this product for about a year, on and off. Today, I experienced something scary: my left pupil was very large, while the right one remained normal size. This gave me a headache and made it difficult to see out of the dilated pupil. My MD told me to go to the ER; however, I decided to wait and see if it would fix itself (which it did). Still, I think there should be a warning label on the product, as it is not safe to drive after these eye drops are put in—at least not temporarily.

Worked great for me! The itching in my eye went away and I don't plan on having any more problems.

Opcon for Red Eyes

I had used this product for approximately 20 years before noticing a change in 2018. My eyes started to become redder and my pupils would dilate after using the drops, which made it difficult to wear contacts. Did the recipe for this product change?

Opcon for Eye Itching

I woke up with itching in one eye. I'm not sure if it's an allergy or conjunctivitis, but I decided to try these drops. So far, there has been no dilation problem.

Opcon for Eye Itching

Used to address itchy, red eyes caused by allergies. It did help with the itchiness, but at the cost of 12 hours of very blurry vision due to extreme dilation of my pupils.

Opcon for Red Eyes

I stopped using this product because it caused me to have vertigo, which is a form of dizziness. I saw my doctor and didn't mention that I had been using the drops until after I stopped, and the vertigo cleared up.

I experienced the same pupil dilation effects that many have noted. This caused my vision to be blurred for the entire day, and it didn't even relieve my itchiness! Will not use this product again.

Opcon for Eye Itching

Unfortunately, this caused incredibly itchy and red eyes within minutes of using it. My pupil also dilated, which led to blurred vision. The other eye had no reaction thankfully. I also started feeling shaky and nervous after only 20 minutes.

These eye drops did alleviate my itchy eyes, however, now my left pupil is so enlarged that I can't see! If you use these drops, be prepared to sit in a dark room for the day.

Opcon for Eye Itching

The drops burn on application, which is to be expected. However, they don't do much beyond that. My eyes feel itchy and dry after using this product, which doesn't help considering the main purpose of the drops is to moisturize your eyes.

Opcon for Red Eyes

After just one drop, my eyes were very white. There was a slight burning, but it helped the itching. However, by the third drop my eyes became red, weepy, and sore. I had to get steroid drops to clear it up; the ophthalmologist said it was from the redness chemical in Opcon-A

Opcon for Eye Itching

These eye drops caused my 13yo son's eyes to turn yellow! I'm hoping this clears up overnight, but if not we'll have to visit the doctor. It would have been nice if this side effect was noted on the packaging.

Digital Tools for Allergic Rhinitis

18 - 65
All Sexes
West Palm Beach, FL

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of digital tools in managing allergic rhinitis (AR) in primary care settings. AR is a common condition that affects many people's quality of life. The study will test whether digital tools, such as the QHSLab platform, can help patients better control their symptoms, improve adherence to treatment, and enhance overall well-being. The trial will compare two groups: one using standard care and the other using both standard care and digital tools. Participants will be monitored over 12 months, and the study will measure changes in symptom severity, treatment adherence, quality of life, and healthcare usage. The study will also gather feedback from patients and healthcare providers about their experience with the digital tools. The digital tools used in this study are designed to help patients manage their AR more effectively by providing regular symptom assessments, medication reminders, and personalized feedback based on their health data. This summary ensures the information is clear and straightforward for patients, families, and healthcare providers while maintaining compliance with IRB guidelines.

In-Clinic Endoscopic Polypectomy for Nasal Polyps

18+
All Sexes
Vancouver, Canada

Chronic rhinosinusitis, also called chronic sinusitis, is a very common life-long disease affecting over 5% of the Canadian population. Its symptoms, including daily facial pain and headache, an inability to breath through the nose and complete smell loss, regularly impair one's ability to work and to enjoy and participate in daily activities. The annual cost of chronic sinusitis to Canada is estimated at $1.3 billion while the government pays an estimated $860 million yearly for chronic sinusitis treatment. Chronic sinusitis with polyps, the most common type of chronic sinusitis, is usually treated with a combination of medications and surgery. Until now, surgical treatment has only been performed in the operating room, at a cost of about $3500 per procedure. But, recent studies have shown that a new procedure, "in-clinic polyp removal", can provide an improvement in patient symptoms to levels equal to those for sinus surgery performed in a hospital operating room. Moreover, in clinic polyp removal has additional advantages including a shorter procedure recovery time, a significantly lower cost to the health care system (about one-tenth the cost or $450), and a shorter wait time for treatment. With the proposed pragmatic trial, the investigators will determine whether the in clinic polyp removal procedure is as good as sinus surgery in the operating room at controlling patient symptoms of chronic sinusitis. The investigators will also determine the cost and health-benefits for a patient, the healthcare system and for society of in clinic polyp removal in comparison to sinus surgery done in a hospital operating room. The investigators will then know if this new treatment, in clinic polyp removal, can replace sinus surgery as the standard of care for these patients.
