What is Motrin

IbuprofenThe Generic name of this drug
Treatment SummaryIbuprofen is a common pain reliever that was first developed in 1960 as a safer alternative to aspirin. It was officially patented in 1961 and became available for use in the UK in 1969 and the US in 1974. Ibuprofen is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and is usually sold as a racemic mixture. The S-enantiomer of ibuprofen is believed to be more effective at reducing pain than the R-enantiomer.

Effectiveness

How Motrin Affects PatientsIbuprofen is used to reduce pain, fever and inflammation. It works by blocking the substances that cause these issues (prostanoids) from being produced by the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. It also helps to reduce swelling, and has been found to increase beta-endorphin levels in the blood. Ibuprofen is commonly used to treat dysmenorrhea, migraines, and joint pain, and has been found to reduce neurodegeneration when taken in low doses over a long period of time. It has also been linked to a decrease in the rate of breast cancer by 50
How Motrin works in the bodyIbuprofen works by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase, which is involved in making substances that cause pain and fever. Ibuprofen is a non-selective inhibitor, meaning it blocks both COX-1 and COX-2. Blocking COX-2 reduces the production of prostaglandins that cause inflammation, pain, fever, and swelling. Blocking COX-1 can cause side effects like stomach ulcers.

When to interrupt dosage

The advocated dosage of Motrin is contingent upon the indicated condition, such as smooth muscle relaxation prior to radiological procedures, Catarrh and Pain relief. The amount of dosage is contingent upon the mode of delivery (e.g. Kit - Oral; Topical or Tablet) listed in the table hereunder.

Motrin for Minor Musculoskeletal Injury
I was surprised at how quickly Motrin took effect. I only needed to take one gel capsule and, 12 hours later, I'm still feeling a bit groggy but that's a small price to pay for its efficacy.

Patient Q&A Section about motrin

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is Motrin the same as ibuprofen or Tylenol?

"Tylenol, Advil, and Aleve are all pain relievers that can be found on drugstore shelves. The active ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen, while the active ingredient in both Advil and Motrin is ibuprofen. The active ingredient in Aleve is naproxen."

Answered by AI

Is Motrin & Tylenol the same?

"The two drugs have different active ingredients and thus belong to different drug classes. Tylenol is an analgesic that relieves pain, and it is also an antipyretic, which means it reduces fever. Motrin, on the other hand, is an NSAID, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Both drugs can cause nausea, stomach pain, skin itching or rash, and headache, among other side effects."

Answered by AI

What is a Motrin used for?

"MOTRIN® is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and contains ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is used to relieve pain and reduce fever. Adult MOTRIN® IB products contain 200 milligrams of ibuprofen and are available as tablets or Liquid Gels (liquid-filled capsules)."

Answered by AI

Is ibuprofen and Motrin the same thing?

"Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is also known as Advil or Motrin. Other members of this drug class include aspirin and naproxen (Aleve)."

NTR-1011 for Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

18 - 75
All Sexes
Glendale, CA
This phase 1a and 1b study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, immunogenicity, and preliminary efficacy of NTR-1011 in healthy adults and in adult patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. The main goals of this study are to determine the safety profile of NTR-1011 across subcutaneous and intravenous dose levels, understand how the drug behaves in the body, characterize its biological activity through relevant pharmacodynamic markers, assess the potential for immune responses to treatment, and explore early signals of clinical benefit in autoimmune disease settings. This is a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study that begins with a single ascending dose evaluation in healthy volunteers followed by a multiple dose assessment in patients. The design is intended to define the highest safe and well tolerated dose, establish a robust PK and PD baseline, and generate initial patient level evidence to support dose selection and advancement into subsequent clinical development.

Embolization for Migraine

18 - 80
All Sexes
Baltimore, MD
This study is to test the safety and feasibility of a procedure called embolization of the middle meningeal arteries (MMA), using a product called Onyx. Embolization creates a plug in the arteries. MMA embolization with Onyx is not approved for use in patients with migraines, but is currently used in patients with subdural hematomas. The FDA is allowing the use of Onyx in this study. It is thought that by using Onyx to block the middle meningeal arteries, the amount of migraine-causing substances which are released into the brain's bloodstream will be reduced. The company that manufactures Onyx, Medtronic, is providing the supplies for this study. Participants will be in the study for about 8 months after enrolling, including 6 months of follow up after the procedure. The participants will be asked to complete a daily headache diary and continue the participant's regular migraine medications. Participants will also have several clinic visits and be asked to provide blood samples for research.

Guided Imagery Therapy for Abdominal Pain

7 - 12
All Sexes
Austin, TX
Chronic abdominal pain is common among children, and the majority of cases are attributed to functional abdominal pain disorders. One approach to treating these disorders is by using psychological therapies. This clinical trial aims to see how well pre-recorded guided imagery therapy sessions help children's abdominal pain when delivered via a mobile application (app) on a smartphone or tablet. Participants will complete a baseline abdominal pain and stooling diary to determine eligibility, as well as other surveys. Eligible participants will be given access to the guided imagery therapy mobile application. This intervention asks participants to listen to a 10- to 15-minute GIT session 5 out of 7 days per week for 8 weeks, in addition to their usual care for their abdominal pain. Then, participants will complete another abdominal pain and stooling diary, along with other psychometric surveys, at the end of this intervention period. Participants will also collect another diary and surveys 3 months post-treatment.

Health Coaching for Rheumatoid Arthritis

18+
All Sexes
New York, NY
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if peer coaching works to reduce levels of anxiety and/or depression in adults diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The main questions it aims to answer are: Do people with RA who complete the intervention with a peer coach have lower levels of anxiety and/or depression at 6 months from baseline? Do people with RA who complete the intervention with a peer coach have lower levels of anxiety and/or depression at 6 months compared to those in the control arm? Researchers will compare the peer coaching intervention to an active-control arm (where people without RA coach participants on general health and nutrition topics) to see if peer coaching works to reduce anxiety and/or depression. Participants will meet with a coach every week for 9 weeks and complete several surveys before, during and after the intervention

The goal of this trial is to learn if an interactive evidence-based educational outreach visits to clinicians who prescribe biologics change prescribing of biosimilar medications. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Do educational outreach visits lead to a higher number of prescriptions for biosimilar versions of adalimumab? 2. Do in-person or virtual visits work better? Researchers will compare clinicians offered the educational outreach visit to those who are not offered the visit to see if there is a difference in prescribing of biosimilar versions of adalimumab instead of the original brand-name version. Participants will be offered the chance to meet with a trained clinician who will provide educational information tailored to their knowledge and attitudes on the topic. They will also be provided an educational brochure and patient educational materials.

Pain Mechanisms for Juvenile Arthritis

9 - 17
All Sexes
St Louis, MO
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatologic disease in children. The main symptoms of JIA, which are often the primary focus of treatment, include joint swelling, stiffness, and tenderness. Additional symptoms can include malaise, fatigue, and pain. However, the exact mechanisms contributing to pain are not yet fully understood. Participants will complete a 2.5-hours study session. In the study session, psychophysical assessments of thermal and pressure stimuli will be performed. In addition, demographic, social, pubertal maturation, and behavioral and psychological factors will be collected via questionnaires. A saliva sample and/or blood draw may occur for the analysis of various immune factors and sex hormones. If a joint aspiration is done as part of their standard of care, we will request a sample of the synovial fluid for analyses of immune, hormonal and/or genetic factors. Participants will have the option to participate in additional optional follow-up study visits (every 3 months, up to 1 year) and to complete monthly surveys asking about their juvenile arthritis.
