How Kantrex Affects Patients

Kanamycin is an antibiotic used to fight against certain types of bacteria, like Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Enterobacter, and some types of mycobacteria (the bacteria causing tuberculosis). It works by interfering with the ability of the bacteria to make proteins needed for it to survive. It is less effective against other types of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. In the past, it has been used with other antibiotics to fight against streptococcal infections, particularly endocarditis.

How Kantrex works in the body

Kanamycin works by blocking certain proteins and RNA molecules from working properly. It binds to four pieces of RNA and one protein in the 30S subunit, and prevents them from correctly decoding the genetic information they need to create proteins. When they can't do this, the proteins they produce are either nonfunctional or toxic, which interrupts the process of creating proteins and breaks up polysomes into nonfunctional monosomes.

When to interrupt dosage

The endorsed dosage of Kantrex relies upon the recognized condition, including Bacterial Infections, Bacterial Infection caused by Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Bacterial Infections. The measure of dosage is contingent upon the method of delivery (e.g. Injection, solution or Intramuscular; Intravenous) featured in the table below.

Kantrex Toxicity & Overdose Risk

Amikacin has mild, temporary side effects on the kidneys in 5-25% of patients, and can cause permanent hearing damage in a small number of cases. It is particularly dangerous to the inner ear, where it can lead to hearing loss and dizziness. An overdose of Amikacin is considered to be over 17500mg/kg in mice, over 4g/kg in rats, and over 3g/kg in rabbits.
