Effectiveness

How Flovent Affects Patients

Fluticasone propionate can be taken by mouth to activate glucocorticoid receptors and reduce eosinophilia in the lungs. If used as a topical cream, it can help reduce inflammation in the skin.

How Flovent works in the body

Fluticasone propionate has an unknown mechanism that helps reduce inflammation in the lungs of rats. It does this by activating certain receptors and reducing the number of eosinophils.

When to interrupt dosage

The measure of Flovent is contingent on the diagnosed condition, including Sinusitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Non-Allergic Rhinitis. The dosage also shifts as indicated by the administration approach (e.g. Spray, metered - Nasal or Respiratory (inhalation)) featured in the accompanying table.

Flovent for Controller Medication for Asthma

I've been using this inhaler for two decades with great results. It's important to keep the unit clean and rinse your mouth after use. Unfortunately, my new insurance doesn't cover it, so I have to switch.

Flovent for Asthma

This treatment successfully stopped my chronic bronchitis by halting inflammation and, as a result, the overproduction of mucus in the bronchial tubes. The only side effect I experienced was hoarseness, but that went away after a few days.

Flovent for Asthma Prevention

I took this medicine for six months, my allergies were somewhat controlled but the side effects were just too much. My face was getting puffy, I had joint pains, gained about 14 pounds and my sex drive diminished. When I stopped taking the medicine, I went back to normal. I went for three months without taking anything, my allergies come back and now I am using albuterol. It seems to help--I will never take flovent again.

Flovent for Allergic Asthma

I was put on this medication because my emphysema was progressing. It has helped with my breathing, but I have also noticed increased swelling in my extremities and face, as well as weight gain. The hunger has been constant, which likely contributes to the added pounds.

Flovent for Asthma

I began to experience constant hunger about two weeks after starting this medication. I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling famished, and had to start eating every few hours to stave off the hunger. I eventually had to stop taking the medication because of this side effect.

My dad was neglectfully not given his Flovent for 10 days, which caused him a lot of trouble. Once we figured out the problem and he started taking it again, he's been doing much better.

I had originally thought this was working well for my 3 year old's cough. However, after reading other reviews and taking note of my child's behavior, I noticed that she became much more aggressive after using the inhaler.

Flovent for Asthma Prevention

My son has asthma and he is 8 years old. Took him to see his dr for flu like symptoms... His breathing was fine except a bad cough. Used this inhaler for 1 day 2 puffs 2 times daily. His cough got so much deeper. Used again the next morning then before bed the second day then he vomits and coughed so much he couldnt breath.

Flovent for Asthma Prevention

I took Flovent as a preventative measure, but it only gave me a severe dry throat. If anything, my asthma seemed to worsen while I was on it. I ended up taking my rescue inhaler more often than before. Qvar helped after just one dose, so I would recommend that instead.

Flovent for Asthma

I'm discontinuing this medication after only five doses. Not only has it failed to improve my breathing, but it's also made my cough worse and given me a burning sensation in my throat. I don't understand why my doctor would prescribe something that does nothing to help.

I had a lot of negative side effects while taking Flovent, so I changed to QVAR-40 MCG TWICE A DAY. This has been working much better for me by calming down the inflammation.

Flovent for Asthma

I was prescribed this medication for a cold, which I never had asthma. Within five days of taking the drug as directed, my feet started to swell and I began having breathing difficulties and anxiety attacks. As a result, I had to visit the emergency room. Thankfully, I changed doctors and am now waiting for all of these symptoms to subside.

Patient Q&A Section about flovent

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Does Flovent have a steroid in it?

"Flovent HFA is a steroid medication used to prevent asthma attacks. It cannot be used to treat an asthma attack that has already begun."

Answered by AI

Is Albuterol and Flovent the same?

"Flovent (fluticasone) is an inhaled corticosteroid that is not a rescue inhaler like albuterol. Inhaled corticosteroids work by lessening the inflammation and swelling of the airways in the lungs over time."

Answered by AI

What does Flovent do to lungs?

"The medication works by reducing the inflammation of the airways in the lungs which makes it easier to breathe. Controlling the symptoms of asthma helps you to maintain your normal activities and decreases the amount of time you would miss from work or school."

Answered by AI

What is Flovent prescribed for?

"FLOVENT is a prescription inhaled corticosteroid medicine that is used for the long-term treatment of asthma in people aged 4 years and older. FLOVENT is not used to relieve sudden breathing problems and won't replace a rescue inhaler."

Tailored Recommendations for Infant Gut Microbiome

No minimum age - 3
All Sexes
Austin, TX

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether microbiome analysis, education, and personalized recommendations can improve gut health and reduce early markers of immune-related conditions in infants aged 0-3 months delivered via Cesarean section. The study aims to determine whether these interventions can increase beneficial bacteria, decrease C-section-associated microbiome signatures, reduce opportunistic pathogens, and improve functional potential for HMO digestion and SCFA production. The study also seeks to assess whether improvements in microbiome composition are associated with a reduced prevalence of early atopic symptoms. Researchers will compare three groups: a full intervention arm that receives microbiome reports, coaching, personalized recommendations, and educational materials; a limited intervention arm that receives simplified reports and basic recommendations; and a control arm that receives no results until study completion. This design allows evaluation of both a comprehensive intervention and a more scalable, minimal-results model. Participants will: 1. Provide six microbiome stool samples over a 24-month period. 2. Provide additional small stool samples at two timepoints for exploratory metabolomic analysis. 3. Receive microbiome reports and guidance according to their assigned study arm. 4. Complete surveys on infant health history, symptoms, diet, and environmental exposures. 5. Participate in standardized eczema assessment(s) administered by a Nurse Practitioner and evaluated by a Pediatric Allergy Specialist if any symptoms are reported. This study seeks to demonstrate that targeted microbiome support can positively shift gut microbial development in C-section infants and may reduce risks linked to the early stages of the atopic march. Findings may inform scalable strategies for delivering microbiome-based support in early life and improve long-term health outcomes for this high-risk population.

MoblO2 for Chronic Lung Diseases

18+
All Sexes
Stanford, CA

Many patients with chronic lung disease (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or interstitial lung disease (ILD)) require supplemental oxygen (O2) at some point during their disease course. Practitioners prescribe O2 to patients with chronic lung disease in hopes of the following: 1) that it will limit desaturation events and combat breathlessness, thus preventing the frustratingly slow pace and numerous rest breaks patients are forced to adopt while doing even simple tasks; 2) that it will allow patients to be more active physically (perhaps increase their ability to exercise) and socially (perhaps leave the home more often); 3) that it will stave off putative complications of hypoxemia (e.g., cognitive dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension) and 4) that it will improve health-related quality of life (HRQL). However, despite the rationale for O2, and prescribers' good intentions, patients generally view O2 with frustration and fear - it threatens their HRQL, which is already impaired by having a condition that imposes itself on every aspect of their lives. Nasal cannulas and delivery devices call unwanted attention to patients when they are out in public. O2 users feel stigmatized and are often viewed as "smokers who get what they deserve, even if they never smoked a day in their lives" - or as disabled, sick or even infectious. O2 steals patients' independence, forcing them to plan their lives around it. The anxiety that patients and their caregivers experience around running out of oxygen, or not getting enough, immobilizes them and restricts participation in activities outside of the home. O2 disrupts the home environment, adding stress, and creating a burden for patients' caregiver-loved-ones who are often saddled with the responsibility of ensuring adequate equipment and supply of O2, and O2 is a constant reminder to patients they are living with a condition that could shorten their lives. O2 delivery equipment is typically heavy, unwieldy and intimidating. Different recommendations (e.g., insurance companies use 88% as a cut-off for SpO2, while many practitioners focus on 90%) make it confusing for patients, which almost certainly affects adherence. O2-requiringpatients are starving for things that can make their lives easier. An auto-adjusting O2 delivery device - one that automatically delivers the correct amount of O2 to maintain blood oxygen at desired, pre-set levels - would alleviate the need for patients to constantly (incessantly for many) monitor their peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) and adjust O2flow to meet the demands as exertion levels vary . The MoblO2 device is a battery-operated, light-weight, closed-loop O2 delivery device that houses a regulator (which attaches to compressed gas O2 tanks) and adjusts O2 flow to meet a pre-set blood oxygen level. A pulse oximeter is worn on the ear and transmits via Bluetooth to the device, which adjusts an internal valve to control flow on a second-to-second basis. The user sets the dial to the highest flow of O2 needed to meet the demands of activities they might perform (up to 15 liters per minute), and the device adjusts flow, up to the pre-set level to maintain SpO2 at a preset level (e.g., \> 90%). To conserve O2 supply in the tank - and to avoid over-oxygenation (which could be problematic for a small percentage of patients with the most severe COPD) - the MoblO2 begins to limit O2 flow at a SpO2 of 93%. The device can be manually over-ridden by the user, and should the battery run out - or the device fail for some unforeseen reason - the default position is valve open, so the users receive whatever flow of oxygen has been set on the dial. Given the substantial burdens of O2 on patients and their families, the hassles patients describe with having to monitor their SpO2 and repeatedly adjust the flow of O2 to meet their needs, patients and experts around the world have called for improvements in O2 delivery equipment. The MoblO2 is just such a remarkable improvement and a giant step forward in helping to ease the burdens of O2 on patients who require it. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the MoblO2 O2 delivery device on a range of outcomes, including physical activity, amount (liters) O2 use; maintenance of adequate SpO2 levels; patient reported outcomes including symptoms, HRQL and satisfaction with the MoblO2 O2 device.
