Effectiveness

How Emla Affects PatientsPrilocaine works by attaching to the inside surface of sodium channels, which stops sodium from entering the cells. This blocks nerve signals from being sent, but only temporarily. Once the drug is absorbed away from the cells, the sodium channels start working again and signals can be sent once more.
How Emla works in the bodyPrilocaine works on the sodium channels of nerve cells to stop the spread of seizures, and also helps to regulate abnormal heart rhythms.
