Effectiveness
How Clonidine Hydrochloride Affects Patients
Clonidine works by stimulating certain receptors (alpha-2 adrenoceptors) in the body, which can lower blood pressure, make you sleepy, and help your nerves relax. It needs to be taken twice a day, and the recommended dosage is between 0.1mg and 2.4mg daily.
How Clonidine Hydrochloride works in the body
Clonidine is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist, meaning it works by activating the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. This causes a number of physiological effects, such as decreasing blood pressure and heart rate, dampening pain signals at the spine, and promoting sleep. It works by activating G-proteins which, in turn, cause the alpha-2 adrenoceptor to bind to an effector and inhibit adenylyl cyclase, open potassium channels, and replace GDP with GTP. All these actions work together to produce the desired effects.
When to interrupt dosage
The suggested measure of Clonidine Hydrochloride relies upon the pinpointed condition, such as methadone, diabetic diarrhea and Hypertensive disease. The quantity of dosage fluctuates as indicated by the delivery system (e.g. Oral or Tablet) featured in the table beneath.

Clonidine Hydrochloride Toxicity & Overdose Risk
The toxic dose of fentanyl in rats is 126mg/kg. In humans, the lowest toxic dose is 70µg/kg for children, 126µg/kg for women, and 69µg/kg for men. Signs of an overdose include high and low blood pressure, slower heart rate, shallow breathing, hypothermia, drowsiness, decreased reflexes, weakness, irritability, and constricted pupils. Severe overdoses can cause abnormal heartbeats, difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, seizures, and coma. Vomiting should not be induced due to the risk of further CNS depression; however,

Patient Q&A Section about clonidine hydrochloride
These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.
Is clonidine hydrochloride a Xanax?
"Catapres and Xanax are both used to treat anxiety, but Catapres is mainly used to treat high blood pressure while Xanax is used to treat panic attacks. They belong to different drug classes."
Answered by AI
What is clonidine hydrochloride used for?
"This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, and can lead to a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure.
Clonidine is used to treat high blood pressure by lowering the amount of blood going through the arteries and veins. This lowers the workload of the heart and arteries, and reduces the risk of stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure."
Answered by AI
Does clonidine hydrochloride make you high?
"Clonidine does not get you high. Clonidine works by helping to reduce nervous system over-excitation, which can occur during withdrawal from opioids, alcohol, and nicotine."
Answered by AI
How does clonidine make you feel?
"Anxiety, hallucinations, depression, and sleep disorders are some of the potentially severe and dangerous side effects of clonidine. If you experience any of these side effects, you should seek medical help immediately. Long-term use of clonidine can also cause gastrointestinal problems."
