Treatment SummaryClindamycin is a type of antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria. It can be taken orally or used topically on the skin to treat acne. It is more effective than its predecessor, lincomycin, and works against certain anaerobic bacteria, gram-positive cocci, bacilli, and gram-negative bacilli. Clindamycin also has some off-label uses in the treatment of toxoplasmosis, malaria, and babesiosis. It was first isolated in Lincoln, Nebraska from a soil sample and derived from lincomycin.

How Clindamycin Palmitate Hydrochloride Affects PatientsClindamycin works by stopping bacteria from making proteins, which helps stop them from multiplying. It must be taken every 6 hours to be effective. Taking clindamycin can lead to severe diarrhea and colitis, so it should only be used for serious infections where other antibiotics won't work. This drug is effective against many types of bacteria, but may not work against bacteria that have become resistant to it. Depending on the area, some bacteria may be resistant to this drug, so it's important to check with local health professionals to make sure it will work.
How Clindamycin Palmitate Hydrochloride works in the bodyClindamycin works by preventing bacteria from forming proteins. It does this by blocking the ribosome, a molecule responsible for making proteins. Clindamycin does this by imitating the shape of molecules that help make proteins. This stops bacteria from producing proteins that help it to survive. For acne, clindamycin works by attacking the bacteria that is associated with acne.
