Treatment Summary

Ibuprofen is a type of pain reliever that belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) family. It was first developed in 1960 as an alternative to aspirin and was patented in 1961. Ibuprofen was first used to treat rheumatoid arthritis in the UK in 1969 and in the US in 1974, and is now available over-the-counter. It comes in the form of a racemic mixture, and is broken down into two different enantiomers once ingested, the S-enantiomer being more potent than the R-enantiomer.

Effectiveness

How Children'S Motrin Affects Patients

Ibuprofen helps with pain, fever, and inflammation by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostanoids). It can also increase beta-endorphins in the blood, which may help with pain relief. Ibuprofen can be used to treat symptoms related to dental procedures, rheumatic diseases, dysmenorrhea, migraines, and more. It is believed that ibuprofen may help reduce neurodegeneration when taken for a long period of time, and may be beneficial for Parkinson's Disease and breast cancer.

How Children'S Motrin works in the body

Ibuprofen works by stopping the body from making certain proteins that cause inflammation, pain, fever and swelling. It does this by blocking an enzyme called cyclooxygenase. Ibuprofen blocks both types of cyclooxygenase, COX-1 and COX-2. Blocking COX-2 is what helps reduce inflammation, while blocking COX-1 is thought to cause some of the side effects of ibuprofen, like stomach ulcers.

When to interrupt dosage

The suggested dosage of Children'S Motrin is contingent upon the determined condition, including smooth muscle relaxation before radiological procedures, Catarrh and Pain alleviation. The measure additionally depends on the mode of delivery (e.g. Kit - Oral; Topical or Tablet) featured in the table beneath.

Children'S Motrin for Fever

I was really hesitant to give my young child medication, but when he woke up one day with a fever and complaining of a headache, I didn't have much choice. Children's Motrin worked great - within half an hour, he was feeling better and back to his normal self.

Children'S Motrin for Pain

My 2 1/2 year old had adenoids removed and ear tubes inserted yesterday. The children's motrin is very effective at pain and fever relief, but she became markedly hyperactive after each dose - hyperactivity lasts for hours.

Children'S Motrin for Fever

Unfortunately, this medication only provides my daughter with about two hours of fever reduction. We're going to switch to Tylenol, which can be given every four hours as opposed to this medication which says it can only be given every six to eight hours.

Patient Q&A Section about children's motrin

These questions and answers are submitted by anonymous patients, and have not been verified by our internal team.

Is children's Tylenol or Motrin better?

"A few studies have suggested that ibuprofen may work better than acetaminophen in treating fevers that are above 102-103 degrees Fahrenheit. However, acetaminophen may be a better option for children who are also experiencing stomach pain or upset, since ibuprofen can sometimes irritate the stomach."

Answered by AI

Is children's Motrin the same as ibuprofen?

"Children's Motrin is a brand-name over-the-counter medication that provides temporary relief from fever or minor aches and pains due to headache, toothache, earache, sore throat, the common cold or flu, or sprains and strains. Children's Motrin is formulated in doses appropriate for children aged 2 years and older."

Answered by AI

What is children's Motrin good for?

"Children's MOTRIN® can be used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains due to the common cold, flu, sore throat, headache, toothache, and to reduce fever."

Pain Medicines for Period Pain in Crohn's Disease

18 - 44
Female
Chapel Hill, NC

The purpose of this pilot study is to prepare for a larger study that will compare the effectiveness and safety of two common pain medications, ibuprofen and acetaminophen, to help treat period cramps in women with Crohn's disease. The goal of this study is to identify any challenges in running a larger study. The investigators will track how many people sign up for the study, how well participants follow the study plan, how many people stay in the study, and whether they are able to complete all the study activities, such as taking the medication, submitting samples, and filling out surveys. During the study, participants will undergo a screening visit that includes a blood draw, physical exam, pregnancy test, stool testing, and complete surveys about Crohn's disease and menstrual cycles. Once this visit is complete, the rest of the study will occur at home. Participants will be assigned to take either ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help treat period cramps for four menstrual cycles in a row. Participants will take ibuprofen for two cycles and acetaminophen for two cycles. Participants will know which medication is being taken at any given time, but the order in which they take the medications will be randomly assigned. Before each menstrual cycle, participants will submit a stool sample and fill out a short (\<1 minute) electronic survey. When participants develop period cramps, they will take the assigned medication for three days and fill out short (\<1 minute) electronic surveys about their cramps. After participants finish taking the medication for three days, they will submit another stool sample and fill out two more short (\<1 minute) electronic surveys. After have completing this process for four menstrual cycles, a remote interview with a researcher to give feedback on the study will be conducted.

All Sexes
Cypress, CA

This study is part of the HEAL Initiative supported by the NIH. The purpose of this study is to learn how safe the study drug, SBS-147, is and how people's bodies respond to and process it. Researchers will also look for any side effects that may occur when taking SBS-147. Some participants will receive SBS-147, and others will receive a placebo, which looks the same but does not contain any medicine. This helps researchers fairly compare results. The study includes two parts: Single-Dose Group, where Participants receive SBS-147 or placebo one time. Multiple-Dose Group, where Participants receive SBS-147 or placebo once or twice daily for 7 days.

Educational Interventions for Opioid Use in Dentistry

Any Age
All Sexes
Vancouver, Canada

The aim of this study is to estimate the impact of providing personalized prescribing data and educational materials on opioid prescribing to dentists in British Columbia, Canada. The main research questions are: 1. What is the impact of an intervention on the use of opioids for dental pain? The intervention includes a personalized prescribing report (a "Portrait"), brief educational summary, and patient education materials; and 2. Does the impact of the intervention increase when dentists are also invited to attend facilitated audit-and-feedback group sessions and to develop a practice improvement plan? Using administrative health data, the prescribing of those in different combinations of materials in the Early Group will be compared to those in the Delayed Group to estimate the impact of the materials on prescribing by the dentists.

Oxygen Concentration for Premature Birth

No minimum age - 10
All Sexes
Edmonton, Canada

This study is trying to figure out the best amount of oxygen to give preterm babies (born between 32 and 35 weeks) right after birth. In the past, doctors used high levels of oxygen, but research has shown that using lower levels might help reduce the risk of death in full-term babies without harming brain development. However, investigators don't know the best oxygen level for babies born a little early (32 to 35 weeks). Some early data suggests that giving lower oxygen levels (FiO2 0.3) may not help babies reach healthy oxygen levels by 5 minutes after birth. This study will compare two oxygen levels-FiO2 0.6 and FiO2 0.3 to see which helps babies breathe better and need less ongoing breathing support. Researchers will study over 1,100 babies in hospitals across Alberta, Canada, to find the safest approach for these babies.

App-based Breathing Program for Migraine

18+
All Sexes
Phoenix, AZ

Migraine is one of the most common neurological disorders, characterized by recurrent headaches, sensitivity to light and movement, nausea, and autonomic dysregulation. Although mind-body interventions like biofeedback have shown their efficacy, they remain underutilized due to barriers such as transportation, time constraints, lack of awareness, stigma, and cost. A targeted approach to enhancing HRV is HRV biofeedback (HRVB), a technique using visual or auditory feedback to help people regulate HRV through slow-paced breathing and positive emotional regulation to promote ANS balance and emotional resilience. Investigators will conduct a remotely delivered pilot RCT of an 8-week, 10 min/day, novel app-based HRVB intervention compared to a sham control intervention (matching intervention time and attention with no biofeedback component) in adult with chronic migraine. Investigators hypothesize data collected from the study will: a) support the feasibility and acceptability of the remotely delivered app-based HRVB intervention among adults with chronic migraine, and b) provide insights into refining the intervention by examining patterns of change in migraine and psychological outcomes from pre- to post-intervention.
